Fengguang glared at him through tear-filled eyes. “I’m not a good person. I’m a terrible woman! I hate being threatened the most, and you used your life to threaten me. I should hate you for it… but I couldn’t stop myself from coming back.”
“You came back, and that makes me happy.” See? He still held a place in her heart.
Ou Xun picked up a tissue and gently wiped her tears, but Fengguang suddenly grabbed his hand, squeezing hard. Even though she used all her strength, it wasn’t enough to hurt him.
“Ou Xun, tell me, what’s the story behind these scars?” Besides the bandaged wound on his wrist, his arms were covered in cuts—some fresh, others old, leaving faint marks. There were at least a dozen on both arms. Fengguang had a guess, but she didn’t want to believe it.
He took her hand and pressed it against his face with a sigh. “Every day, all I wanted was to touch you. But you didn’t want to see me, and I was afraid you’d hate me even more. So, I came up with a good solution. Pain helped me momentarily ease my longing for you.”
“You… you’re insane.”
“But before I met you, I was perfectly normal.” His lips curved into a smile, a strange happiness shining in his eyes. “I like the version of myself after meeting you.”
Fengguang should have found him terrifying, but… she didn’t feel any fear. Instead, she wanted to hold him. So she did, carefully avoiding his injured arm as she buried her head in his chest. Her voice cracked. “Ou Xun, you’re crazy.”
Ou Xun rested his chin on the top of her head, gently stroking her back.
How had he survived those days?
He still remembered it clearly. He had hundreds of ways to spy on her, but he couldn’t touch her. It was like having the most delicious cake in front of him but not being allowed to take a bite. It drove him mad. Pain could distract him, so he tried that. It barely worked, but even the smallest relief from the overwhelming desire to imprison her made self-harm seem like a good idea. He believed the only reason it wasn’t effective was that he hadn’t hurt himself enough, so the wounds on his body became deeper and more severe over time.
But this wound on his wrist was the worst one yet.
Fengguang spoke in a muffled voice, “Don’t hurt yourself anymore.”
“Are you still planning to go abroad?” Ou Xun didn’t rush to promise her but instead asked the question that scared him the most. He was terrified of her leaving the range of his control.
“Go abroad?” Fengguang looked up. “I was just going to the Netherlands for a couple of days to relax. You didn’t think I wasn’t coming back, did you?”
Ou Xun stayed silent.
Fengguang couldn’t help but feel both amused and exasperated. “So you thought I was leaving for good, and that’s why you pulled this stunt?”
He remained silent.
“Ou Xun, how can you be so foolish?” She poked his forehead with her finger. “All because of that, you made yourself bleed so much and caused me to cry so much. I don’t even know what to say to you.”
In his mind, Ou Xun silently repeated Guo Ming’s name several times, deciding that he would deal with him later. Right now, the most important thing was the person in front of him. His dark eyes locked onto hers. “Will you leave me again?” Before Fengguang could answer, he quickly added, “If you still hate me for what happened before, you can stab me with a knife or whatever you want. Just don’t leave me again, okay?”
He had lowered himself to the most humble of pleas. Even if Fengguang had a heart of stone, she couldn’t refuse him now. In her heart, she knew. Whether it was the online posts or the targeted harassment in the game, he hadn’t known her back then, nor had he fallen for her yet. When everything blew up, she had just been holding onto her frustration. She had been dramatic enough, and now it was time to let go.
“I won’t stab you, and I won’t let you hurt yourself either. As for the past… let’s erase it, just like the blood you’ve shed today,” Fengguang said softly, kissing him on the lips. “Ou Xun, let’s start over.”
“Okay, let’s start over.” The fragile look on Ou Xun’s face finally gave way to something real, as if a fading spirit had found a reason to live. He lifted her chin and leaned down to kiss her.
A heated, intense kiss that made her face flush.
