The Protagonist’s Halo [Arc 2] Chapter 26.1: True Love In Period Literature (1)
“Yunyun, get up! The sun is almost shining on your butt.”
“I’m up.” A clear girl’s voice sounded, and soon a girl with a ponytail and wearing a simple white cotton and linen shirt came out of the room.
The house has two bedrooms and a living room. All the furniture is old and tidy, giving it a sense of being outdated.
Mother Lin was a little surprised. Her daughter got up very quickly today without waiting for her to lift the quilt.
The Lin family has only one son and one daughter. The eldest son has been in the army for many years, and the daughter is young and stays with her parents, so she is inevitably spoiled.
Breakfast is soy milk and fried dough sticks.
Xiao Han drank the still hot soy milk slowly in small sips while checking the memories of the original body.
Her original name was Lin Yun, and she was now a middle school student in the capital of China in the 1980s. She was sixteen years old and came from a simple family. She had only one older brother, Lin Hua, who was serving in the army and currently held the rank of regimental commander. At only twenty-eight years old, he was young and promising, with a bright future ahead of him.
Father Lin is also a small cadre. He retired from the army and now works in a public institution. While eating breakfast, he wears glasses and carefully examines every national event in the capital’s newspapers. This is almost his daily habit.
Mother Lin worked as the second-in-command at the District Women’s Federation. She was kind yet forthright and capable, managing both work and home with impeccable order. In her youth, she was even recognized as an advanced model. The Lin family was considered a cadre family. While ordinary workers still lived in tube-shaped buildings, the Lins lived in a two-bedroom, one-living-room apartment with heating, which was considered above average for the era.
The daughter’s grades were average, she was lively and outgoing but also well-behaved, and the son had a bright future in the army, but this family, which should have been happy and prosperous, was overshadowed after half a year.
System 9526 transmitted a period romance to Xiao Han.
The protagonist, Chen Xi, is a child of a wealthy family. His grandfather was a general, and he was doted on by his family from a young age. He was known as a bully among his peers, and his youthful impetuosity led to numerous mishaps. To tame his rebellious nature, his family allowed him to attend university as an auditor, where he could experience some cultural edification. Unexpectedly, he fell in love with the elegant and intellectual university professor Qin Qiu at first sight, and despite the fact that she was two years his senior, he began to pursue her passionately.
Qin Qiu comes from a wealthy family, is young and beautiful, and has a noble and aloof personality. The only problem is that she is a married woman.
But Chen Xi didn’t care about that. He liked Qin Qiu and wanted to be with her. He didn’t care whether she was single or married, and used all means to pursue her boldly.
A strong woman is afraid of being clingy. Qin Qiu was moved by the passionate feelings shown by Chen Xi, and soon divorced. After becoming single again, she accepted Chen Xi’s confession and was with him.
Although there were obstructions from both the Chen family and Qin Qiu’s parents, Chen Xi insisted on being with Qin Qiu and refused to marry anyone else. He continued to fight and work hard to achieve results, and finally won everyone’s blessings and approval. This passionate love broke through the secular concept and had a happy HE ending.
Lin Yun never appears in this romance novel, and the Lin family is just a passerby in this touching love story.
Because her elder brother Lin Hua is Qin Qiu’s ex-husband who has little presence in the text, is dull and cold in nature, and has always stayed in the army.
Probably in order to downplay the extramarital affair, the author briefly mentioned Lin Hua and the Lin family, saying only that Qin Qiu had no feelings for her husband, an officer who had been in the army for many years, and that it was just a short arranged marriage under the orders of their parents. Qin Qiu chose to divorce after falling in love with Chen Xi, and there was no conflict. The Lin family never showed up again afterwards.
It is not mentioned in the story, but in Lin Yun’s memory , Lin Hua returned to the army shortly after the divorce and died while performing a dangerous mission on the border.
If the divorce was merely an impact on the Lin family, then Lin Hua’s sacrifice was a massive blow. The Lin family’s parents hadn’t gotten over the pain of losing their child for years, and Lin Yun had quickly grown from a carefree, innocent little girl to the breadwinner of the family.
The client Lin Yun’s wish is that his brother not die young.
Lin Yun had resentment towards Qin Qiu and Chen Xi. If it weren’t for the divorce, in order to avoid bringing rumors to Qin Qiu’s new life, Lin Hua would not have returned to the army immediately and taken the initiative to carry out such a dangerous mission. At least Qin Qiu had to bear part of the responsibility.
Of course, she did not ask for revenge on Qin Qiu and Chen Xi in her commission, she just hoped that her elder brother could live well.
However, the target of the mission, Lin Hua, is still in the army. It is usually inconvenient for him to come back unless necessary, and it is not easy to contact Xiao Han either.
Mother Lin served a bowl of salty tofu pudding with marinade on top. “Xiao Qiu, come over at noon. I’m taking a day off today, so I’ll go buy some fish. Xiao Qiu likes steamed fish.”
She glanced at her daughter, who was drinking soy milk obediently, and thought that she was in the growth stage. “Buy another pound of spareribs. Doesn’t Yunyun want to eat braised spareribs all day long?”
The Xiaoqiu that Lin’s mother mentioned is none other than the heroine, Qin Qiu. Although Qin Qiu is a military dependent, she does not accompany the troops and does not live with the Lin family on weekdays. Instead, she lives in the university teacher dormitory. She only comes to have dinner with her in-laws on weekends.
“Well, just buy whatever you think is right.” Father Lin was still reading the newspaper without even raising his head. He was not a male chauvinist, but many affairs at home were decided by Mother Lin, and he just let them go.
Mother Lin looked at Xiao Han again, “Yunyun, don’t play too hard during the holiday, or you might fall behind in your studies when you return to school. Also, your sister-in-law is coming over today, so remember to come back early at noon if you go out to play.”
Sixteen-year-old Lin Yun was at an age where she loved to play. Whenever she had a holiday, she would often go hiking, ice skating, and watching movies with her classmates. Although the Lin family didn’t believe in raising daughters in wealth and sons in poverty, their eldest son had already enrolled in military school and joined the army early, freeing them from any worries. This meant they could devote even more care and attention to their youngest daughter, practically spoiling her.
“I understand. I will review the textbooks carefully in the next few days.” Xiao Han nodded, and then remembered something, “I’m going to Jingcheng University to find my sister-in-law. I’ll come over with her.”
Xiao Han wasn’t Lin Yun after all, and had little interest in the things her age enjoyed. She also wanted to know how far the story had progressed. Whether in the novel or in Lin Yun’s memories, the Lin family actually learned about Qin Qiu and Chen Xi’s affair very late, and even their understanding of the situation was not very clear. They only found out about it after the two divorced.
Mother Lin frowned. “Jingcheng University is so far away. Why are you going there? It’s quite hot here.”
“I haven’t been to Jingcheng University yet, but I heard the scenery there is nice, and there’s a big library.” Xiao Han said in her original playful tone, and sure enough, Mother Lin’s skeptical brow relaxed. She knew her daughter wouldn’t think about anything else besides playing, so she was just looking for an excuse to have fun.
Mother Lin didn’t find fault with it. She just said, “Play as you like, but don’t cause trouble for your sister-in-law.”
Father Lin didn’t even interrupt.
After breakfast, Xiao Han returned to the original body’s room. Posters of celebrities from this era were plastered on the wall, and on the desk were some textbooks and a collection of stamps that his original body had collected for fun. Lin Yun attended No. 1 Middle School. Her grades weren’t great, but they weren’t too bad either, especially since her parents didn’t expect much from her.
When leaving the house, Mother Lin gave Xiao Han ten yuan. It was definitely more than enough to take the bus, so she just wanted to give her daughter some extra pocket money for her to play.
Jingcheng University was quite far from where the Lin family lived. The bus ride alone took over an hour, with two transfers. Father and Mother Lin rarely visited, and Lin Yun, young and unwilling to travel so far, found it troublesome.
Moreover, her relationship with her sister-in-law Qin Qiu was mediocre, not close, and they were not close on a daily basis. Qin Qiu and Lin Hua had been married for three years, but they were rarely together and their feelings were weak. Qin Qiu and the Lin family did not live together, and Lin Yun had always been respectful to her sister-in-law Qin Qiu.
Because this marriage is considered as marrying up for the Lin family.

Welcome to Arc 2…..
At first I thought it was one big novel focused on the ent industry not realizing it was divided into different arcs. Which makes it even better😺😸
