Ou Xun had lost a lot of weight. He had always been thin, but now he looked so frail it seemed like he could collapse at any moment. Blood dripped steadily from his left wrist, falling to the ground, and his once-white shirt was stained with blood. Against the white fabric, the crimson stood out in a shocking contrast.
“Fengguang, you came to see me,” he said softly, looking at her with a gentle smile on his pale face, just before his body collapsed forward.
Fengguang immediately caught him. He hadn’t lost consciousness, but the blood loss had made him too weak to stand. He struggled to lift his arm and wrap it around her small frame, letting out a satisfied chuckle. “You finally came to see me.”
He sounded like a child who had finally gotten his favorite toy.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she choked out, “I’m taking you to the hospital.”
He shook his head. “I want to hold you a little longer.” As he raised his hand to touch her cheek, he suddenly realized that his hand was still bleeding, and blood had smeared across her face. He panicked and used his clean hand to try to wipe it off. “Fengguang, I’m sorry. I got you dirty.”
“Stop talking!” Fengguang finally broke down in tears. Gripping his hand, she pleaded, “Let’s go to the hospital, okay? If not, I’ll keep crying, and you’ll have to watch.”
He kissed away her tears. “Don’t cry. I’ll go to the hospital.”
As if his words were a royal decree, Guo Ming, who had been quietly standing in the background, could no longer hold back. He rushed over, quickly wrapped a towel around Ou Xun’s wound, and helped Fengguang support him out the door.
As they passed by, Shen Wuyan, who had been standing at the doorway, noticed the way Ou Xun was staring intently at Fengguang.
What kind of look was that?
It was tender and affectionate—anyone could see how deeply he loved her. But beneath that gentle mask was a disturbing obsession, a determination to pull her into the same hell he was in, no matter what.
Shen Wuyan suddenly felt a chill down his spine.
He had always thought of himself as someone obsessive, but he never imagined that Ou Xun’s obsession could be even more terrifying. He couldn’t help but wonder if Fengguang hadn’t come today, would Ou Xun have died?
He would never know the answer.
The doctor said that while he had seen many people attempt suicide by cutting their wrists, he had never seen anyone do it with such force. It didn’t even seem like a suicide attempt—it was more like self-mutilation.
Even while getting stitches, Ou Xun refused to let go of Fengguang’s hand, not allowing her to leave. He didn’t cry out in pain during the stitching, but Fengguang couldn’t stop crying. Ou Xun tried to comfort her, “Don’t cry. It doesn’t hurt.”
His words only made her cry harder.
The doctor remarked that this was probably the strangest patient and family member he had ever seen in his career.
Guo Ming decided it was time to stop being a third wheel and left to buy food for Ou Xun. In the hospital room, only Ou Xun sat on the bed, and Fengguang continued to cry.
“You’re something, using your own life to force me to come back. Do you think your life is that worthless?”
“Because I don’t have any other way to make you come back,” Ou Xun said, handing her a tissue with his good hand.
Fengguang took it and wiped her tears. “What if I hadn’t come back?”
“You would’ve come back.”
“Where do you get that confidence?” She tossed the soaked tissue aside and took another one from his hand.
He smiled softly, the corners of his eyes crinkling. “Because you’re kind, Fengguang.”
Even if she didn’t know someone, if they appeared before her, she would try to save them if she could.
