It had to be said—once a man is involved in something like going on a date with the woman he loves, no matter how old he is, he’ll turn into an eager young boy again, feeling a quiet excitement in the days leading up to it.
By Friday, most of the students from both Division A and Division B had already left. Feng Guang chose not to return to the Xia residence. Instead, she stayed with Ming An in his house until Saturday. Her parents’ trip to Egypt had apparently been a sudden decision. She’d been surprised when she got the call, but it wasn’t a bad thing. Her parents were often at odds with each other; maybe traveling together would improve their relationship. And as a bonus, it gave her the chance to go into town with Ming An.
Her wish came true—Saturday was cloudy. At last, she could wear her favorite sleeveless red dress without needing a parasol or a sunhat. Light and carefree, she headed out with Ming An.
Ming An’s outfit, on the other hand, was as simple as ever: the same shirt, doctor’s coat, and scarf combination. Feng Guang had once opened his wardrobe and found it filled with identical sets of clothing. Rather than being surprised, she had calmly shut the door again.
There was plenty to see in town. Many of the street vendors were selling silver crosses, silver bullet charms, and other items rumored to ward off vampires. Hardly any ordinary people bought them. Ironically, it was the vampires who purchased the most.
In truth, silver and holy water were somewhat effective against mindless creatures at C-rank or below, but against higher-level vampires, they were completely useless.
This was the first time Feng Guang had seriously explored the town. Holding Ming An’s hand, she stopped to stare at every little trinket for quite a while. Take the sugar figurine stall, for example—it was surrounded by children, and yet she and Ming An, two adults, stood there watching for a long time.
Although her usual “meal” was the blood in Ming An’s body, she occasionally felt nostalgic for flavors she’d enjoyed in the past.
Seeing her staring longingly, Ming An offered to buy her one. She covered her cheeks and shook her head. “I made a vow. Until my fangs grow in, I won’t eat candy.”
It was rare for her to show such determination. He only found it amusing. “If they never grow in, does that mean you’ll never eat candy for the rest of your life?”
“If I say I won’t, then I won’t. It’s a matter of principle.” Even she felt that the chances of her fangs ever growing in were probably slim.
Ming An raised an eyebrow. “Since when did you become so principled?”
“Well…” Her face flushed red. Standing on tiptoe, she whispered in his ear, “I want you to… experience what it feels like to be bitten by your partner…”
She forced out the last words, her face burning.
Ming An hadn’t expected that answer. He tightened his grip on her hand and bent slightly to murmur in her ear, “Actually, when Feng Guang uses her hands, I feel something too.”
“That… that’s different…”
“How is it different?”
Blushing deeply, she put on a serious expression and said, “One is physical damage, and the other is magical damage. On the battlefield, someone who can use both is obviously at an advantage!”
It was quite possibly the most amusing analogy Ming An had ever heard in his life.
