Her reaction was really like a cat in the middle of a meal. Ming An’s gaze softened almost to the point of melting. With his other hand, he gently patted her back. “Slow down. Don’t rush.”
She drank too quickly and choked, letting go of his hand as she coughed softly.
Ming An wrapped an arm around her and sighed. “I told you not to hurry… Do you want more?”
After she stopped coughing, she shook her head.
The wound on his arm quickly disappeared. He raised his hand and used the pad of his index finger to wipe away the red stain at the corner of her lips, saying with a faint smile, “Do you want to keep sleeping?”
“No.” She grabbed his hand and, as if out of habit, put his bloodstained finger into her mouth.
Ever since he had started feeding her, she had developed a rather admirable habit: never waste food.
Ming An asked softly, “Do you want to get up, or lie down a little longer?”
After cleaning the last trace from his finger, she narrowed her eyes and said, “Lie down a little longer.”
“All right. Then we’ll lie down a little longer.”
He opened his arms, and she instinctively moved closer, resting her head on his arm and wrapping both hands around his waist. “You need to go to work,” she said quietly.
“No rush.”
“Then I skipped half my classes again yesterday.”
“With me here, you could skip as many classes as you like and still get your diploma.” He truly embodied the phrase abusing one’s authority for personal gain.
She murmured an “Oh,” then asked, “If I never go back to the student dorm, won’t people think it’s strange?”
“At least so far, no one has asked.”
“And if someone does?” She tugged at a strand of his long hair, as though it were an amusing toy.
He answered casually, “We’ll just say Miss Xia thought the student dorm was too small and moved into the teachers’ quarters.”
Feng Guang considered it carefully and decided that it sounded like a pretty good excuse. In a cheerful voice, she asked, “This week is the last week of the month, right? Does that mean I can go out?”
She remembered that at Osiris School, students in Division A only got one break a month—one chance to leave campus and go home—during the weekend of the final week.
Ming An asked, “Where do you want to go?”
“Will you take me into town?” She tugged at his hair again. “I got a call from my parents last time—they’re traveling in Egypt this week. So we don’t have to worry about running into them in town. We can just pretend it’s a date for the two of us, okay?”
He liked the word date very much, so he had no reason to refuse. “All right. I’ll take you into town.”
“Ming An, you’re the best!” She happily kissed him, then asked excitedly, “What should I wear that day? The white chiffon dress, or the green floral one? I really want to wear the red dress, but I don’t like sunlight. It would be nice if it were cloudy—no sun at all. It feels like everything goes more smoothly without the sun…”
Curled up in his arms, she chattered on and on, no different from any ordinary girl in love.
Listening to her endless chatter, Ming An suddenly felt that even the birds outside the window didn’t sound pleasant anymore. Only the voice coming from her small mouth was truly sweet to his ears.
Before long, this town would fall into chaos.
But before that happened, there was nothing wrong with taking her out for some fun—especially since she called it their date.
