Feng Guang opened her eyes. When she saw it was Ming An, she closed them again and mumbled softly, “I’m so sleepy… Just tell them I’m not feeling well and went to the infirmary. I want to sleep…”

“I don’t think that’s something you need to worry about.” Warm light spilled across Ming An’s face, yet there wasn’t a trace of warmth in his smile. “You’d do better to worry about yourself.”

“My situation isn’t urgent. But you and this beautiful young lady…” A slow, alluring smile spread across Zeng Xue’s face. “If I were to inform the Hunter Association or the Elders’ Council, do you think they’d come and break you apart? Take you away separately?”

Ming An’s eyes curved upward slightly. “You’re welcome to try.”

“Of course, I believe you have the courage and ability to endure the Hunter Association’s harsh interrogation. But if the woman you love were taken by the Elders’ Council, do you think she’d come back alive to see you?”

Ming An’s voice turned cold. “That’s our business. It has nothing to do with you.”

Zeng Xue said nothing—perhaps she didn’t know what to say.

Feng Guang had a dream. She dreamed that an elephant was pressing down on her. No matter how hard she pushed, she couldn’t move it. In the end, she could only lie there beneath it, uncomfortable for what felt like a very long time.

Then she woke up.

Looking at the familiar room, she took a moment to gather herself. She tossed aside the hand resting on her stomach—but as soon as she did, it slipped back again.

The man pulled her into his arms. Without opening his eyes, he asked, as if murmuring in his sleep, “Hungry?”

“Yeah.”

He lifted his hand with practiced ease and bit his own wrist. She immediately grabbed that hand and placed her mouth over the wound on his arm.

After a minute, it occurred to her that she hadn’t brushed her teeth yet. But since she’d already started, brushing could wait.

Lying there in bed, holding onto his hand, she gradually felt her eyelids grow heavy again, drifting toward sleep.

Sensing that the flow of blood had slowed—unlike her usual appetite—Ming An finally opened his eyes. Seeing her nearly asleep while still clutching his hand, he quietly tried to pull it back.

The moment he moved, she instantly woke up and tightened her grip around his arm.
