That day, after she cried out Xu Wang’s name in a panic, Feng Guang had no idea what happened next. All she knew was that it felt like she’d fallen asleep—and when she opened her eyes again, she was lying on a soft bed. A crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling above her, and that was when it slowly dawned on her: this wasn’t her room.
She shot upright in bed, alarmed, and immediately called out, “Xu Wang!”
The door opened quickly, and a man walked in. He came to her side and sat down, wrapping her trembling form in his arms and saying gently, “I’m here.”
“Xu Wang…” Feng Guang threw her arms around his neck, her cheek pressed to his chest as she sobbed. “I… Cecil took me. Did he… did he do anything to me?”
Xu Wang understood exactly what she was afraid of. The corner of his mouth lifted into a slight smile.
“No. You’re fine.”
Her memory had stopped at the moment she collapsed on the ground, so she had no idea what had happened between then and now. Hearing him say that nothing happened—that Cecil hadn’t done that—instantly lifted a weight off her chest.
“Th-that’s good…” she choked out, tears spilling freely. She had been terrified back in the sewer, yet hadn’t shed a single tear. But now, wrapped in his arms, all the fear and helplessness came crashing down. She could only cry to let it all out.
“This prison of yours… it’s supposed to be the most secure one in the world! But the inmates just wander around like it’s nothing!”
“Yes, that was my mistake.”
She cried harder. “You’re the warden! Of course it’s your fault!”
“Mm. Feng Guang is right.”
Xu Wang responded with infinite patience. No matter what she said, he agreed with her. Her small frame trembled in his arms, her voice soft and full of grievance—it was enough to melt his heart.
“You can’t… you can’t just leave me behind like that again. What if… what if someone grabs me again? This world of yours is terrifying to women!”
“This time, I didn’t think it through. From now on, I won’t leave you alone again.”
He brushed the hair from her forehead and dropped a kiss there, gently patting her back to soothe her.
Cecil and Xiao Xiao showing up from the East Tower had been completely unexpected. Thankfully, Xu Wang had arrived in time. The girl in his arms had been spared.
Tears still clouding her vision, Feng Guang sniffled and asked, “What… what happened to Cecil?”
“Don’t worry. He won’t be showing up in front of you ever again.”
Her first instinct was that Xu Wang had killed him. She instantly pulled away from his embrace, sitting up straight as she grabbed his hand, panic in her voice.
“You killed him?! He’s an important prisoner to the Alliance! If you killed him, won’t that cause trouble?”
“Feng Guang… are you worried about me?”
“No duh!” she snapped, her lips trembling as fresh tears rolled down her cheeks. “It’s all because of me! You killed a high-value inmate, and now if you get locked up… what am I supposed to do? I don’t want to be a widow!”
Her tearful wail was heartbreaking—though the reason behind it made Xu Wang want to laugh despite himself.
“Well… maybe you could come to prison with me. That way, you wouldn’t have to be a widow.”
“You guys…” she sniffled again, “You can bring family with you to prison?”
The word family hit him right in the heart, and he was thoroughly pleased.
But of course—since the beginning of time, when has anyone ever gone to prison with their family?
His fingers, cool and gentle, wiped away her tears. His heart softened completely at the thought that she truly meant it—she wanted to go with him.
“Don’t cry,” he said, his voice low and reassuring. “No one in this world has the right to punish me.”
