The children looked at one another, hesitant. After a long pause, a young boy finally spoke up. “Senior Sister, is cultivation really difficult?”
Feng Guang had never been one to be cold toward children. She smiled gently and said, “If you keep in mind that hardships lead to success, then it won’t feel so difficult.”
With one child breaking the silence, the others started to grow more talkative.
“Senior Sister, I heard you’re the strongest in Xuan Sect. Is that true?”
“I’m not the strongest. Above me are the Sect Leader, the elders, and even my senior brothers. Strength isn’t just about cultivation—it also involves wisdom, character, and one’s understanding of the world. I’m still just a small part of it all.”
“Can we ever reach your level?”
“With dedication and hard work, of course you can.”
“Senior Sister…” One of the children stepped forward and asked eagerly, “Can we see the Cold Abyss Sword?”
Feng Guang hesitated. The Cold Abyss Sword was a powerful weapon.
Shang Baizi noticed the eager curiosity in the children’s eyes and nudged Feng Guang with his elbow, smiling. “Junior Sister, just show it to them. With you and me here, what could go wrong?”
After a moment’s thought, Feng Guang nodded. She formed a hand seal with her right hand, and in an instant, a long sword made of cold iron materialized in front of her. Its blade was a translucent, deep blue, radiating a chilling glow. The sight of it exuded an icy sharpness, both beautiful and deadly.
The children gasped in awe.
“This sword is so cool!”
Shang Baizi explained, “The Cold Abyss Sword has been passed down from one Sect Leader to the next. It’s also the Xuan Sect’s most treasured artifact. Legend has it that centuries ago, our previous Sect Leader wielded this very sword to slay a great demon that had plunged the world into chaos. Thanks to him, peace was restored.”
Of course, it was only peace on the surface.
“Hmph, what’s so special about it?” a little girl muttered under her breath, crossing her arms.
Her voice was soft, but with Feng Guang and Shang Baizi’s level of cultivation, it was impossible for them not to hear it.
“Oh?” Shang Baizi flicked open his fan with a playful smile. “Little Junior Sister, it sounds like you have some opinions about our former Sect Leader.”
The little girl flinched, realizing she had been overheard, but she quickly regained her composure. With fearless defiance, she declared, “He’s not as powerful as my father.”
It was obvious she was a spoiled child. Instead of being annoyed, Shang Baizi found her arrogance amusing. “Oh? And who might your father be? I wonder if I’ve heard of him.”
“My father is my father.” The little girl, her hair tied into two braids with red ribbons, lifted her chin proudly.
Shang Baizi shook his head with a sigh. “What a shame.”
Such a cute little face, yet paired with such an overconfident attitude.
The girl didn’t quite understand what he meant by “shame,” but her instincts told her it wasn’t a compliment. She huffed. “It’s just a sword! If I wanted, my father could get me the strongest sword in the world.”
Shang Baizi chuckled. “Forgive me for saying this, but I doubt there’s a sword in existence that can surpass the Cold Abyss.”
“You’re exaggerating! I want to see just how powerful it is!”
Before anyone could react, the little girl reached out toward the sword.
“Careful!” Feng Guang called out in alarm.
Sensing an unfamiliar presence attempting to touch it, the Cold Abyss Sword instinctively activated its defense mechanism. In an instant, countless razor-sharp ice blades materialized in midair, launching toward the girl.
For a split second, all she saw was a blur—then suddenly, a graceful figure in white appeared in front of her. With a swift motion, the figure summoned a protective barrier, blocking every single ice blade. She then caught the Cold Abyss Sword in midair before it could attack further.
“Junior Sister, are you alright?!” Shang Baizi asked in shock.
Feng Guang shook her head, then turned to the little girl and asked softly, “What’s your name?”
The girl’s eyes widened when she noticed the blood dripping from Feng Guang’s hand. She blinked, momentarily stunned. After a brief silence, she finally answered, “My name is Xiaoxiao.”
I knew it hahahahaha
