But since Xiang Lifeng was upset and came storming over, she had followed, though her attention was elsewhere. She even looked curiously at Song Jin as he left, noting how unusual it was to see a man taking on domestic tasks in this era. Being from 40 years in the future, she had seen it often, but it was practically unheard of now. She wondered if Qingli was also from the future.

Xiang Lifeng glanced at Song Jin, frowning with disapproval. But for now, his priority was to stand up for his kids.

Qingli stepped back, inviting them in. “Good timing; there’s something I wanted to discuss with you. Come on in.”

Xiang Lifeng pursed his lips and stepped inside.

Dabao and Erbao exchanged a tearful look, crying louder. “Waaaah…”

Xiang Lifeng, irritated by the noise, snapped, “Quiet down.”

“Sniffle… sniffle…” Dabao and Erbao softened their crying a bit.

Qingli couldn’t hold back a chuckle.

The two kids glared at her.

Qingli kept her cool and, noticing Xiang Lifeng glaring at her, said, “Xiang Lifeng, before coming to question me, did you even ask your kids?”

Xiang Lifeng replied coldly, “They said your child was the one who hit them!”

“Oh, they told you, so you didn’t bother to think through the situation?” Qingli raised an eyebrow with a mocking smile, crossing her arms in a challenging stance. “Are you stupid? Your kids, an eight-year-old and a five-year-old, went after a six-year-old girl. Who do you think started it?”

Xiang Lifeng’s expression froze, his lips tight.

He hadn’t thought about it that way; he’d just seen his kids’ injuries, felt furious, and rushed over after hearing their complaints.

Dabao and Erbao shrank, nervously wringing their hands and avoiding eye contact.

Seeing this, Qingli’s tone turned sharper. “My Xiaoyu has always been timid and avoids trouble because of her early experiences. So why would she single out those two specifically? Are they just that annoying?”

“Du Qingli!” Xiang Lifeng shouted angrily, unwilling to back down. “No matter who started it, beating them up like this isn’t right! You made them apologize last time, so now I want an apology too!”

Qingli laughed coldly. “Well, I think they deserved it!”

“You—” Xiang Lifeng was so angry he choked on his words, glaring at her, his fists clenched tightly.

Seeing this, Song Dongyun was startled and quickly tugged his sleeve, whispering, “Calm down…”

Qingli was completely unafraid. She stepped forward and spoke coldly, “Do you know why I’m saying this? Half a month ago, your kids didn’t do their homework, so when my Xiaoyu collected it and didn’t receive theirs, she told the teacher. They got punished, and afterward, they turned around and beat her up. That time, it was a one-sided fight. Xiaoyu came home in tears, and I didn’t say a word. Now you want to hold her accountable? Why don’t we settle all the scores at once?”

Xiang Lifeng froze in surprise, looking from her to his kids. “Is this true?”

Dabao shrank, while Erbao shouted, “No! We didn’t hit her!”

Hearing this, Xiang Lifeng’s eyes flickered, and he looked back at Qingli.

“Ha!” Qingli scoffed, full of disdain. “The school staff knows if there was a fight. Want to ask them?”

Dabao and Erbao immediately looked down, too scared to speak. They hadn’t told their parents about the fight, afraid of this situation, but now that Du Qingyu had told her family, they felt a flash of resentment toward her. Still, remembering how she had beaten them down last time, they felt defeated. Given how badly they’d been hurt, they hoped their father might make her pay.

Their guilty expressions made Xiang Lifeng even angrier. He wanted to scold them, but seeing their bruised faces made him feel pity, leaving him torn and silent.

Just then, a cheerful shout rang out from afar, “Sister!”

Everyone turned to see a little girl running over with a jump rope. Seeing the scene in the yard, Xiaoyu stopped, quickening her pace to grab Qingli’s hand tightly.

It was her first time facing angry parents, and she felt scared.

Qingli patted her shoulder reassuringly. “Good timing. Their dad came here to say you shouldn’t have hit them so hard. I don’t agree. Xiaoyu, tell us what happened.”

Xiang Lifeng said nothing, only staring at Xiaoyu in disbelief.

Such a delicate-looking girl had managed to beat up his two rough-and-tumble kids?

Xiaoyu was nervous but answered honestly, “I was playing at school when a girl brought this really pretty hacky sack with colorful feathers. Xiang Lian wanted it, but they wouldn’t give it to her, so she started causing trouble, grabbed it, and threw it up in a tree. We couldn’t reach it, and she laughed at us, so my friend fought her. I went to help, and then Xiang Heng (Erbao) jumped in too. Then… it turned into that.”

She felt a bit guilty at the end, knowing she’d gone a bit overboard, but Xiang Lian had been so infuriating! She’d lost her temper but held back from actually hurting them too badly.

She’d even gotten a bit banged up herself. But since she’d had backup, she only suffered a few kicks, while Xiang Lian and her brother got the worst of it.

Song Dongyun’s expression darkened, clearly displeased with Dabao’s behavior. Xiang Lifeng looked at Dabao, his voice stern. “Is that what happened?”

Dabao lowered her head even more.

Erbao quickly clutched his head and whined, “Dad, but look what happened to us! She held my head down and smashed it on the ground!”

“Hit your head?” Xiang Lifeng had thought Erbao had hit his head in the scuffle, but hearing the truth, he turned angrily to Qingli. “Even so, don’t you think your daughter went too far?”

Qingli ruffled Xiaoyu’s hair, giving her a reassuring smile. Then, with a cold expression, she looked at Xiang Lifeng. “They deserved it! If you can’t teach your kids, then they’re bound to get disciplined by others. I don’t think Xiaoyu did anything wrong. If she’d gone easy on them, they might never have learned their lesson! I’m proud of her for standing up for herself.”

Dabao and Erbao stomped their feet in frustration. “Dad!”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Xiang Lifeng took a step forward, his face darkening, jaw clenched in anger.

“Exactly what I said!” Qingli waved Xiaoyu aside, cracked her knuckles, and suddenly struck, aiming for Xiang Lifeng’s face. She scoffed, “What? Think you’re the only one who knows how to fight? If I didn’t have to hold back for the sake of your kids, I would have done this a long time ago!”

With a loud smack, Xiang Lifeng’s cheek flared with pain, his mind spinning.

Dabao and Erbao gasped and stumbled back in fear.

“Ah!” Song Dongyun’s face went pale, frozen in shock but too afraid to step forward.

Qingli didn’t give Xiang Lifeng a moment to recover; she moved in with a second strike.

Despite his training, Xiang Lifeng raised his arm to block only to have Qingli switch her target, driving her fist into his gut.

“Ugh!” Xiang Lifeng grunted, finally deciding to fight back, but each attempt missed. Qingli slipped through his defenses like an eel, landing hit after hit.

He was shocked. Having been out of training for months due to a recent back injury, he was rusty. Qingli pressed forward, unrelenting. Then, with a quick move, she struck his leg, sending him tumbling backward.

Qingli swiftly pinned him, punching him square in the face. Thud! His head hit the ground with a sickening thump, leaving him with a bruise like Erbao’s.

Qingli didn’t stop, landing punch after punch without mercy.

Dazed and overwhelmed by the pain, Xiang Lifeng could barely process what was happening, let alone fight back.

“Let go!” Song Dongyun, eyes wide with worry, rushed over to push Qingli off.

But Qingli had already stood up, having made her point. She stepped back, letting Song Dongyun help Xiang Lifeng to his feet, where he stood with a flushed face, glaring at Qingli without saying a word.

Qingli met his gaze with a smirk, her innocent expression only making him angrier. As he opened his mouth, the metallic taste of blood hit his tongue, and the sharp pain in his cheek sent a chill down his spine.

He knew he’d have no chance in a continued fight, so with silent fury, he turned to his kids and barked, “What are you looking at? Go home!”

Dabao and Erbao flinched and snapped out of their stupor.

Already shaken by the beating from Du Qingyu, they’d hoped their dad would help. Instead, he’d ended up beaten too. Their courage to complain was gone, and with a quick, fearful glance at Qingli, they ran out without a word.
