The trip to the amusement park ended.
Everyone seemed satisfied. Shao Mingxuan drove Su Qiu and her son home. Qingli was fast asleep in the passenger seat, but the moment the car stopped, she woke right up. Shao Mingxuan was just about to scoop her into his arms, but she beat him to it—pushing the door open and dashing off.
Since it was Saturday, they were expected at the Shao family estate for dinner. Wei Xu-wei had been busy all day, but made a point of finishing early.
As soon as Qingli came in and spotted her, she launched herself into her arms. “Mom! How’s the progress on the shop’s renovations?”
Wei Xu-wei had been about to ask how her daughter enjoyed the day, but instead got hit with that question first thing. She couldn’t help groaning. “My little manager—when you’re like this, you put a lot of pressure on Mommy!”
Qingli grinned. “Don’t worry, you can handle it. And if you don’t know something, just ask me. I know all about it!”
Wei Xu-wei couldn’t help laughing and pulled out her phone. She’d just filmed a video of the site before leaving.
Qingli grabbed the phone and studied it carefully.
Standing off to the side, Wei Xu-wei muttered inwardly. Look at her, acting like she understands this stuff. But who knows, maybe this little girl really will do something big one day.
Shao Mingxuan came in a moment later. Spotting the phone, he frowned slightly. “Huh? You changed your phone?”
Wei Xu-wei nodded. “Mm, just two days ago.”
Noticing his wife didn’t feel like chatting, Shao Mingxuan rubbed his nose awkwardly and kept quiet. He still felt guilty. Today, he’d lost his head and crossed a line. Luckily, Qingli had been busy playing and hadn’t seen—otherwise he’d really be wearing a green hat.
Still… he rubbed his temple. “I’ll call Mom later. Maybe it was the heat, but I think I got a touch of heatstroke. My head’s still spinning. Let’s skip dinner tonight—I’ll go next weekend instead.”
“Fine by me,” Wei Xu-wei replied quickly. The fact that he would call, and she didn’t have to, was perfect.
He nodded and went straight to their room.
Qingli finished watching the video and handed the phone back. The team they’d hired was a little pricier than average, but the quality looked solid, perfectly matching the style she wanted.
But there was something more important—
She tugged her mother back to her room. From her own jacket lining, she pulled out Wei Xu-wei’s old phone, powered it on, and opened the photo album.
“What’s all the mystery?” Wei Xu-wei asked lightly, not thinking much of it. She assumed Shao Mingxuan had taken Qingli to the amusement park because she begged, not knowing Su Qiu was involved.
But the moment she saw what was on the screen, the smile on her face vanished.
Qingli burrowed into her arms, hugging her tight, patting her back like she herself was the parent soothing a child. “It’s okay… don’t be sad…”
The tears that had been gathering in Wei Xu-wei’s eyes were pushed back by sheer exasperation.
She had prepared herself for this, but seeing it still hurt. If she hadn’t truly loved him, why would she have married Shao Mingxuan? If she hadn’t truly loved him, why would she have endured ten months of pregnancy and all the suffering, just to give him a child?
And yet, after all that, what did she get? A husband who cheated in broad daylight.
The injustice and regret weighed heavily. She cursed herself for being blind enough to marry a man whose heart was with another woman. Did he really think marrying her, giving her the title of “young madam,” and keeping her at home without working was some kind of gift?
She didn’t need his so-called generosity.
She became a full-time wife because of him—and because of their child.
But in that moment, with her daughter’s small, warm body pressed against her, all the regret and resentment evaporated.
This marriage hadn’t been all misery. She still had this child. Even if she bore the Shao name, it was clear her daughter’s heart was with her, not him.
And that alone was enough to make up for every ounce of pain Shao Mingxuan had caused.
Quickly wiping her tears, Wei Xu-wei forced a smile into her voice. “Give Mommy a kiss and I won’t be sad anymore.”
Qingli immediately planted a big kiss on her cheek.
Wei Xu-wei grinned, hugging her tightly. Her voice was hoarse when she asked, “Qingli, if Mommy divorces Daddy… who would you want to stay with?”
Qingli rubbed her cheek affectionately against hers. “Of course I’d stay with Mommy!”
That answer soothed Wei Xu-wei completely. Energy surged back into her, filling her with determination. Yes, the money for the restaurant came from Shao Mingxuan, but it was marital property. And with how wealthy the Shao family was, it wasn’t likely they’d claw it back. As long as she managed it well, she’d have her own financial footing. Since children over ten could choose which parent to live with, custody of Qingli was practically guaranteed!
Her thoughts raced—what she needed to do tomorrow, how to speed things up. She worried Shao Mingxuan might not wait, that he’d demand a divorce before her business took off, leaving her vulnerable.
But just then, the little girl in her arms whispered, “Mom, do you have time tomorrow? I want to go to the water park!”
Wei Xu-wei froze for a split second, then answered without hesitation. “Of course I do!”
Qingli flashed a pure, innocent smile. On her smartwatch, the WeChat app was already open. She typed a message to one of the handsome guys she’d added at the club:
【Big Brother, are you free to take me to the water park tomorrow? Forty thousand, two people!】
Since Shao Mingxuan went to the amusement park with Su Qiu, as a dutiful daughter, she had to make sure both parents got the same treatment~
