Chapter 261
When they arrived at the amusement park entrance, sure enough, Su Qiu was there waiting with her son, Xuanxuan.
Unlike Wei Xuwei, who got pregnant right after marriage, Su Qiu had her child two years later. The boy was two years younger than Qingli, standing there with his head held high, dressed in a collared shirt and suspenders, wearing sunglasses, his whole demeanor screaming, “I’m the coolest kid in the world.”
Qingli didn’t like Su Qiu, disliked Su Qiu’s husband Gu Junyi even more, and naturally couldn’t bring herself to like their son either.
In her previous life, after Su Qiu and Shao Mingxuan got married, the boy hadn’t lived with his mother. They didn’t interact much, but whenever they did, the hostility was obvious—each blaming the other’s parents for ruining their own parents’ marriage.
So when they met now, neither warmed up to the other. They exchanged only the most polite, distant greetings.
The amusement park was the largest children’s park in the capital, though all the rides could be enjoyed by adults too. Nearly everything was designed for parent-child interaction.
But Qingli had no interest in doing “parent-child activities” with Shao Mingxuan. She simply tossed her backpack and sachet at him and went off to play on her own.
They had unlimited passes, so no waiting in line.
Seeing this, Xuanxuan immediately copied her, refusing to let any adults follow him either.
Shao Mingxuan rubbed his nose in embarrassment. “Sorry. Ali’s been spoiled by my parents… she’s a bit of a tomboy.”
“What are you talking about?” Su Qiu gently scolded, her eyes full of tenderness. “Ali’s perfect the way she is. I always wished I had a daughter, but fate never allowed it. Honestly, in our situation, it’s lucky I didn’t. Ali’s beautiful, adorable, and so clever—I just love her.”
Hearing his daughter praised, Shao Mingxuan straightened his back with pride. Turning to Su Qiu, he said, “If you had a daughter, she’d definitely be the cutest child in the world.”
Su Qiu’s cheeks turned red as if he’d just whispered sweet nothings. She ducked her head shyly.
Shao Mingxuan froze, suddenly realizing his words might have sounded a bit… suggestive. They were supposed to be just friends joking around—why was she reacting like that?
At that moment, the two children came running back from the swings. Su Qiu hurried forward, her eyes only on Qingli. “Oh dear, your braids are coming undone. Did your dad do your hair?”
Shao Mingxuan caught up just in time to hear that and chuckled. “She did it herself.”
Qingli immediately stepped back to avoid Su Qiu’s hand. “I can do it myself.”
Su Qiu sighed helplessly and turned instead to wipe the sweat off her own son.
Shao Mingxuan frowned. “Ali, you can’t be so rude!”
While fixing her messy hair, Qingli shot him a sideways glare. “Dad, I am being polite. I just want to do my own hair. Is that not allowed?”
He was at a loss for words. “Your Aunt Su was just trying to help you.”
“I’m a bit of a clean freak—I don’t like people touching me!” Qingli’s expression darkened. “Say one more thing and I’m leaving right now!”
Shao Mingxuan’s face turned stormy, but he didn’t dare push her. If she really stormed off, he’d end up leaving Su Qiu alone with her son—that wouldn’t look good.
Su Qiu quickly tried to smooth things over. “Don’t be upset, Ali. You’re very polite—it’s your dad who’s wrong. Here, Auntie will punish him for you!”
She lightly pinched Shao Mingxuan’s arm.
Well—“pinched” was a generous description. It was barely a touch.
Qingli curled her lip and pretended not to notice.
Go ahead and seduce him. I won’t stop you. Scumbags belong together.
Shao Mingxuan’s ears flushed red. He coughed lightly, pretending nothing happened. “Alright, it’s Dad’s fault. Go on and keep playing. What do you want to ride next?”
Qingli flicked her braid, bouncing happily toward the next attraction. “Bumper cars!”
Xuanxuan’s eyes lit up, and he hurried after her.
The bumper car ride was longer than most—at least twenty minutes. The arena was huge, with a crowd gathered around to watch. After the earlier incident, Shao Mingxuan felt the air between them was a little heavy. Unlike the other parents, he didn’t crowd the fence to watch the kids. He just stood there.
“Why aren’t you going over?” Su Qiu asked with a smile.
Instead of answering, Shao Mingxuan just looked at her. Stared, really.
Su Qiu bit her lip, lowered her eyes shyly, and didn’t move either. “W-why are you looking at me like that?”
A faint fragrance lingered at the tip of his nose, seeping into him, clouding his thoughts. His rationality wavered. The urge not to look away was stronger than his willpower. When she asked, the words slipped out of his mouth before he could stop them. “I just wanted to look at you. You’re still the same as in college—you haven’t changed a bit.”
Su Qiu smiled faintly, her face heating up. Her voice was soft and bashful. “No, I’ve changed. We both have…”
In their last life, they’d missed out on each other forever. In this life, more than ten years had passed—but at least now, there was still a chance.
Her unfinished words made the noisy amusement park seem to fade into silence.
Clinging to the last of his rationality, Shao Mingxuan glanced toward the bumper car arena. Twenty minutes at least—his daughter wasn’t coming out anytime soon. He… stepped closer. Then a little closer…
Su Qiu tilted her head up ever so slightly.
A whistle rang out. Someone in the crowd jeered, “Wooo!”
Their lips had touched!
Shao Mingxuan forgot to breathe. His mind went hazy, unable to think at all.
Su Qiu trembled with nerves. This wasn’t what she intended—she only wanted to test his attitude, not let things go this far!
It was overwhelming.
Despite the noisy park around them, the world suddenly felt silent, as if only the two of them existed.
Not far away, a little girl held up a phone and snapped picture after picture—angles perfect, images crystal clear.
When she was done, she tucked her phone away, walked back to the bumper car entrance, and climbed into another car.
One of the attendants grinned at her. “Hey, kiddo, does your stomach still hurt this time?”
Qingli gave a shy smile. “It doesn’t hurt anymore!”
