Chapter 96 — The Young Master’s Fake Little Sister (9)
◎ Please welcome our second male guest ◎
Song Junyi became famous overnight. Now everyone knew that Xiao Xinx i from Class 6–3 had a cool, tough boyfriend from Class 6–3.
At first, the rumor was fairly down-to-earth: one of Song Junyi’s admirers went looking for trouble with Ming Ming, and Song Junyi showed up in time to chase her off.
But over time, the story evolved into something completely different:
Song Junyi’s admirer, Feng Haohao, supposedly led a group of “gangster-type” adults into the school to force Xiao Xinx i to break up with him; otherwise, they’d sell her off to some remote mountain village. Upon hearing the news, Song Junyi rushed in like a hero rescuing a damsel in distress, fighting more than a dozen people by himself, beating them until they were all rolling on the ground in pain, and then issuing a vicious threat—
“If I ever find out you’re trying to mess with my woman again, you won’t live to see tomorrow’s sunrise!”
The little kids who heard the rumor but didn’t witness anything beat their chests in regret, doubting life itself, wondering whether they missed this earth-shattering scene during class… or during nap time… or maybe while they were in the bathroom?
Oh, how did those “gangsters” get into the school?
Obviously, they knocked out the security guards and stormed right in.
And these fearsome adults—who could even beat up security guards!—were supposedly all taken down by Song Junyi alone.
Heaven above!
Song Junyi was way too cool!
Xiao Xinx i was way too lucky!
Ming Ming: “…”
Thanks for the invite. Person currently in elementary school, just got off the metaphorical plane. If you ask me what it feels like to live in the center of the storm—
I can only say:
What storm?
I am the storm!
From then on, whenever Song Junyi passed by Class 3–6 after class and “subtly” glanced inside, the students within a ten-meter radius around Ming Ming would all whip their heads toward her, cheering and teasing. Her deskmates would grab her arms excitedly and pull her toward the window:
“Your Old Song is here!”
Old Song…
Should a sixth-grade boy really be called something like that?
Finally, she lived up to everyone’s expectations and looked outside. Song Junyi seemed to be waiting just for that glance. His handsome face lifted at the corners, giving her a smile that was gentle but with a touch of charming mischief. He kept walking as his buddies teased him all the way down the hall.
Ming Ming rested her cheek on her hand and stared blankly at her desk.
Ah… the youth of children…
So warm and fuzzy.
Meanwhile, An Kang—who had witnessed the entire thing from the front—clenched his fists so tight he was about to shatter… half of his teeth.
“Hey, buddy, calm down. This is something every man has to go through eventually,” Zhao Chengfei said, patting his shoulder. Instead of being comforted, An Kang shot him a furious glare.
Zhao Chengfei withdrew his hand awkwardly and told himself: The medicine is bitter, but I swear this guy just refuses to take it.
Though to be fair, the kid really was developing a little slowly—he still hadn’t finished losing all his baby teeth.
“Hey, big brother.”
Xiao Yunmu called Ming Ming from across the ocean. “You behaving at home? Listening to your teachers at school?”
“I’m super well-behaved! Every teacher says I’m smart!”
In truth, the teachers’ feedback sounded more like: This girl sits silently in class and never raises her hand, but her homework is excellent and her test scores are always flawless. She’s great—but it’d be nice if she participated a bit more.
Ming Ming had heard this so many times her ears were forming calluses, and she still refused to change. Unless the teacher called her by name, she absolutely would not raise her hand.
Please—why would I compete with these little gremlins to answer questions?
“Brother, don’t worry about anything. Just study hard. After your degree, keep going—get a master’s, then get a PhD. That’s how you reach peak life!”
“You sure know a lot for a kid.”
“Of course I do. I saw on the news that PhD graduates are fought over by employers. Not only do they get paid, but they even get help finding jobs for their spouses. You should totally get a PhD so it’ll be easier for you to find a sister-in-law for me.”
PhD students were worth a lot! Ming Ming’s college counselor followed her PhD-graduate husband into the university. She always looked down her nose at students, basically radiating “what can you possibly do to me?”, and loved it when people flattered her. Meanwhile, Ming Ming spent all her time juggling part-time jobs and had no time to butter her up. As a result, she once lost out on a scholarship and nearly lost her financial aid too.
Not that she could do anything about it.
Xiao Yunmu laughed softly over the phone—his voice sounded even more blurred and smoky than in real life. “If I get a PhD, I’ll find a way to secretly give that spouse-job quota to you. Deal?”
Ming Ming replied instantly: “Deal.”
Principles? Never heard of them.
“Have you grown taller lately?”
“I’m four-foot-six now!” Ming Ming lifted her heels unconsciously, excited. “By the time you come back, I might be five-three!”
“Alright. If you aren’t five-three by then, that means the maids at home didn’t take care of you well enough. I’ll dock their pay,” Xiao Yunmu teased.
Ming Ming muttered, “Maybe let’s not. My bones are rejecting this kind of competition…”
She had been nearly four-foot-three back in first grade. Being four-six halfway through third grade was actually pretty slow.
“Study hard. If you do well, I’ll take you abroad this summer.”
Ming Ming sighed dramatically. “What counts as doing well? I’m already at the point where I can’t improve anymore.”
“Invincibility is so lonely.”
Xiao Yunmu: “…”
As summer vacation approached, one very important matter loomed—
Song Junyi was graduating.
Many classmates were even more worried about the two of them than Ming Ming was. Her deskmate fretted:
“What are you guys gonna do? After he graduates, you won’t see each other every day. Are you going to break up? Will he find someone else? I heard middle-school girls are already developing—what if your Old Song gets seduced by one of them?”
Ming Ming had been zoning out, but at the words “girls developing,” she started paying attention.
She turned her head—her deskmate was staring at her chest.
Ming Ming puffed out her chest indignantly.
What are you looking at? A four-foot-six bean sprout still has a chest, okay? She was already wearing training bras!
Her deskmate: “…”
Now she looked even more worried.
Ming Ming was speechless.
Kid, why are you so mature already? This is not good, okay?!
—
On graduation day, Song Junyi said goodbye with great reluctance.
Ming Ming looked at his handsome face—still growing into itself—and asked suspiciously:
“When you get to middle school… are we gonna break up? Will you find someone else? Will you get seduced by those girls who’ve already developed?”
Song Junyi held her hand and said earnestly, “Don’t worry, sweetheart. Time and distance won’t change how I feel about you. Even after I graduate, I’ll still come see you. And besides, we still have a whole summer together…”
