Fengguang curled her lips, but didn’t dare say it out loud in front of her father.

Osiris was a boarding school. Even if your home was right next door, you were still required to live on campus. Fengguang couldn’t help thinking that this school was really good at squeezing money out of people.

To help her develop independence, Xia Chao didn’t come to see her off on the Saturday she enrolled. She hauled her suitcase by herself and climbed up the tallest mountain in town—Osiris Mountain. Grumbling inwardly the whole way, she finally reached the summit after nearly an hour. There stood a magnificent, sprawling European-style building. She should have guessed—it was obviously going to look like some kind of Western castle.

Fengguang was wearing a white, knee-length dress and a wide-brimmed sunhat, doing her best to keep the sunlight off her skin. She wasn’t of some lowly bloodline that feared the sun, but no matter what, she was still a vampire. She didn’t fear sunlight, yet it did make her feel faintly uncomfortable.

Just then, she spotted another girl dragging a suitcase and panting as she climbed up.

The girl wore her hair in a ponytail, a white blouse, and denim shorts that showed off a pair of long, beautifully shaped legs. When she saw Fengguang, her eyes lit up and she hurried over.
“Hi, I’m Zeng Xue.”

“I’m Xia Fengguang.” Fengguang had already guessed the girl’s identity at first glance. She felt a twinge of envy at how lightly Zeng Xue was dressed, though she didn’t show it on her face.

Zeng Xue asked again, “Are you also a transfer student?”

“Yes.”

“That’s great! I was worried I’d be all alone and—”

Fengguang cut her off. “I’m in Division A.”

“Huh?” Zeng Xue lowered her head in disappointment. “I’m in Division B.”

“I think we should go inside quickly,” Fengguang said. “The sun’s about to set.” With that, she dragged her suitcase through the school gate.

Without thinking, Zeng Xue followed right behind her.

Once inside, they realized just how enormous the campus was. Since it was Saturday, there were barely any people around. As the sky gradually darkened, Fengguang glanced at Zeng Xue beside her. She thought to herself that if some uncontrollable vampire suddenly rushed out to drink blood, it would be fine if it were a lower-blood vampire—but if a pureblood showed up, then with equal status, she had little confidence she could protect Zeng Xue, this walking blood bank.

“Ah!” Zeng Xue twisted her ankle and suddenly fell to the ground.

Fengguang helped her up. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine… I just scraped my knee.”

Fengguang looked at the blood seeping from the wound on Zeng Xue’s knee and keenly sensed a sweet scent spreading through the air. A gust of wind rose suddenly. Fengguang tossed aside her suitcase, turned around, and commanded sternly, “Back off!”

A young, handsome man in a black school uniform crouched like a panther on a nearby tree. The smell of blood made him salivate, but the pressure radiating from the pureblood noble standing there kept him from taking even a single step forward.

This was instinct born of bloodlines. Vampires of lower blood could not resist those of higher, nobler blood.

It was an unbreakable rule.
