When Feng Guang got home, of course, she got scolded by her dad. She obediently admitted she was wrong and promised she’d bring back the God of Wealth tomorrow. Her dad smacked her on the head.
“Bring back? You mean invite back!”
“Yes, yes, yes—tomorrow I’ll invite the God of Wealth back.” She dashed upstairs the moment she said it, shut the door, and flopped face-down on her bed, sulking alone.
Sure, Han Chen really was her target, but this guy was way too hard to pin down. Especially after what happened today—she’d gone to an antique shop as a guest and ended up being tricked into cleaning like some kindhearted volunteer…
His ability to talk circles around people was ridiculously good. With her head buried under the blanket, she sighed in exhaustion, wondering what on earth she was supposed to do.
Just then, her phone rang. It was her dad calling from downstairs.
“Come out to dinner with me,” Xia Chao said as soon as she picked up.
“Nope.” That was her straight answer. They were only a floor apart, but father and daughter had gotten into the habit of communicating by phone—after all, climbing stairs was a pointless waste of energy, wasn’t it?
Xia Chao didn’t care. “I’m not asking your opinion. You’re going.”
“So pushy? Who am I meeting tonight?”
“Gu Yang just got back to the country.”
Wasn’t that Gu Lan’s father? Feng Guang yelled, “I said I’m not going, and I’m not going! If you’ve got the guts, drag me there!” And she hung up.
At the best hotel in City A, two major figures were meeting: mafia boss Gu Yang and Xia Group’s chairman Xia Chao. Both brought along their sons and daughters. Anyone with half a brain could see what was going on.
Feng Guang put on a graceful, well-mannered act, even though in her heart she’d cursed her dad a hundred times. She’d dared him to drag her out—and he really had hired a locksmith to pry open her door and haul her into the car. She’d cried and fussed all the way, but once they were in public, she instantly transformed back into the perfect Miss Xia.
“It’s been a while. Feng Guang, you’ve only gotten prettier,” said Gu Yang, a striking middle-aged man. Time had etched lines onto his face, but it was obvious he must’ve been just as handsome as his son when he was young—the kind of face that made women’s hearts race.
Feng Guang glanced between Gu Yang and Gu Lan, confirming again that father and son did share a resemblance. She smiled politely. “Thank you for the compliment, Uncle Gu.”
Xia Chao returned the courtesy with a smile. “And Gu Lan looks more and more like you every day. Seeing him reminds me of you back in the day.”
“Not at all. This boy’s far more capable than I ever was. He just keeps me worried all the time.”
The two older men slipped into a mutual-praise routine. Meanwhile, Feng Guang happened to meet Gu Lan’s eyes—and in both pairs of eyes was the same look of impatience.
Gu Lan almost laughed in disbelief. He’d wasted his precious time just to come eat with her. He hadn’t even complained yet, and she already dared to look so bored?
“Dad, you two keep talking,” Gu Lan said, standing. He grabbed Feng Guang’s hand, pulled her up by force, and announced, “She and I are going to take a walk.”
Before anyone could respond, he had already dragged her out the hotel doors.
