Someone piped up, “Hey, gorgeous, do you have a boyfriend?”
Fengguang glanced toward the boy sitting in the corner, then smiled lightly. “No.”
“That’s great! I’ve got a shot then!”
“What do you mean you have a shot? We all have a shot!” another boy cut in, smacking the first one on the back of the head.
The classroom buzzed with laughter and chatter—until a sharp slam echoed through the room.
A boy with a dark, brooding expression sat up and fixed his gaze on Fengguang at the front. His face was unreadable, but his voice was icy as he swept his eyes across the class. “You’re all too damn loud. You woke me up.”
Instantly, the room fell silent.
The homeroom teacher dabbed at the sweat on his forehead. “Miss Xia, your seat is by the window. That empty one over there.”
“Yes, thank you, teacher.” Fengguang walked over and sat down.
The girl at the desk to her right leaned across the aisle and greeted her. “Hi, new student. I’m Mu Jin.”
“I know who you are.” Fengguang’s lips curved into a mysterious smile.
Mu Jin blinked in surprise. “You know me… huh—ah!”
She yelped when a book smacked her on the head. The boy behind her, who had just been napping, muttered lazily, “Told you not to make noise. What, are you deaf?”
“Hey, Gu Lan! Do you have any sense of respect? Don’t you know throwing books at people is incredibly rude?” Mu Jin rubbed her sore head, swallowing back the urge to curse. She was determined to be a lady, not a lunatic like him.
“You just said respect,” Gu Lan raised an eyebrow. “But do you even count as a person?”
“You—!” Mu Jin was so furious she couldn’t even form words.
Fengguang chuckled, then said suddenly to Gu Lan, “Your zipper’s open.”
Gu Lan froze, instinctively lowering his head. When he saw his pants were perfectly fine, he shot her a vicious glare.
“It was just a joke,” Fengguang said pleasantly. “No need to take it so seriously, Gu Lan.”
“Huh?” Mu Jin looked puzzled. “Wait, how do you know his name?”
“Didn’t you just tell me?” Fengguang smiled.
Mu Jin thought about it with her slow brain and realized it was true. She scratched her head sheepishly. “You’re right. I totally forgot.”
“Xia Fengguang!” Gu Lan stood up. The phrase menacing as hell somehow still fit his handsome face.
Fengguang smiled warmly, calm as ever. “Yes, Gu Lan? Do you need something from me?”
Swallowing his anger, Gu Lan snapped, “Come outside with me.”
“What are you planning to do!?” Mu Jin blurted, her gut telling her nothing good would come of it. If he was dragging the new girl out, it was probably to bully her.
By now, every eye in the classroom was glued to the three of them.
Fengguang ignored the stares. She set down her bag and opened a book. “I’m here to study. If you’ve got something to say, let’s talk after class.”
“I wasn’t asking for your opinion.” Gu Lan strode over, grabbed her wrist, and yanked her to her feet. “You’re coming with me.”
And just like that, Fengguang was hauled out of the classroom.
The hallway was empty—it was still a self-study period. Gu Lan shoved her against the wall, immediately releasing her wrist, his temper blazing.
“What the hell are you doing at Lihai Academy?”
