“Because I transferred schools,” Fengguang said casually, rubbing the hand he’d grabbed too tightly.
“No kidding. I’m asking why you suddenly transferred. Weren’t you always in an all-girls’ school? And now you just happen to transfer to mine?”
“You know I’ve always been in a girls’ school. My mom said I’m almost an adult, and if I don’t get to know a few boys, it wouldn’t make sense. So she told me to transfer.”
What “get to know a few boys” really meant was that her mom simply didn’t want her to stay in a girls-only circle too long, or else one day she’d meet a boy, treat him like some rare treasure, and get herself tricked.
Gu Lan laughed mockingly, his purple diamond studs adding a wicked edge to his smile. “So, you just happened to transfer to my school?”
“It wasn’t just by chance.” Fengguang tilted her head with a sweet smile. “Crown Prince, don’t tell me you forgot—this school also has my dad’s investment. Besides, aside from Lide Girls’ School, Lihai is the best school in City A. If I don’t come here, where else would I go?”
She wasn’t wrong. The Xia Group had invested in Lihai. Thinking of that, Gu Lan’s expression turned complicated. It meant he couldn’t simply find a way to drive this woman out. His tone dripped with sarcasm. “The dignified Miss Xia, willing to stoop to Class E—the worst in Lihai?”
“Learning depends on yourself. What does the class I’m in have to do with it? Gu Lan, you have to believe me—I love studying. When it comes to discipline in academics, I do have some.”
“Xia Fengguang!” Her airy, dismissive attitude completely infuriated him. Gu Lan stepped forward, gripping her wrist with a dark, threatening expression. “I don’t care what reason you came here for, but don’t think your status will give you much of an edge with me. I made it clear a year ago—what’s between us will be settled sooner or later.”
“Hey, can you just talk without grabbing me all the time?” Fengguang said lightly. “You’re hurting my hand.”
Who even made up this rule, anyway? Like, grabbing someone’s wrist was supposed to make a male lead seem more domineering and manly.
Gu Lan glanced at his hand on her wrist, raised an eyebrow, and smirked. “What? Are you saying if I touch you, your heart starts racing?”
Fengguang sighed, utterly exhausted. “You know I’ve stocked up on disinfectant at home because of you.”
“…Heh.” Gu Lan sneered, letting go of her wrist, annoyed with himself. “Let me warn you one last time: don’t do anything unnecessary. Don’t set your sights on what isn’t yours.”
“And that includes people I shouldn’t touch, right?”
He shot her a cold look, gave a dismissive snort, and turned to leave without another word.
Fengguang rubbed her head. She really had no idea how she’d given off the impression that she was planning to harm Mu Jin. Gu Lan had gotten so worked up that he’d even dragged her aside just to warn her.
She thought about it for a moment, then decided it didn’t matter. Wandering down the hall, she turned a corner and stumbled on an unexpected scene.
A delicate, frail-looking boy stood in front of another, holding a pink envelope, his face burning red. In a shy, stammering voice, he said, “Senior, I’ve admired you for a long time…”
Holy crap! Boys’ love?!
Fengguang instantly ducked back behind the wall, only poking her head out to peek. The other boy had his back to her, so she couldn’t see his face, but judging by his tall, lean figure, he had to be good-looking too.
