The most prestigious private school in City A was Lihai Academy. It was a nobles’ school that took in students from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school. Tuition costs several hundred thousand dollars a year, but the advancement rate was just as high.
After all, hardly any ordinary kids made it into this school. Even if they slacked off, graduates never had to worry about getting into college—or finding a job later.
But among this crowd of privileged heirs, there was one complete misfit: Mu Jin from Class 2-E.
Lihai Academy divided its classes by grades. Mu Jin’s grades had originally been decent, but because she transferred in midway without taking the entrance exam, she was placed in the lowest-ranked class—2-E.
The students in Class E were notorious slackers. They skipped classes, fought constantly, or were on their way to a fight. Over time, the class had earned itself a nickname: The Most Violent Class in History.
As with any school, the top students looked down on the troublemakers, and the troublemakers sneered right back. Class A, full of high achievers, and Class E, full of delinquents, were mortal enemies. But Class E had one oddball: Mu Jin, who was desperate to claw her way into Class A.
Her motivation wasn’t just her love of studying—there was another, far more important reason. On her first day, when she accidentally stepped on Gu Lan’s shoe and he wouldn’t stop harassing her, a gentle boy stepped in to help her.
She later learned his name was Han Chen, the student council president and the undisputed top scorer in every exam. Mu Jin never hid her admiration for him, and because of that, she often became the target of Gu Lan’s sharp mockery. But she never seemed to care. Everyone else called him “Young Master,” yet she wasn’t afraid of him in the slightest. Ironically, the less intimidated she was, the more interested Gu Lan became.
Just as the playful back-and-forth between Gu Lan and Mu Jin was beginning to warm into something more, one morning during self-study, the homeroom teacher suddenly walked into the rowdy Class E with a girl by his side.
The balding teacher didn’t even check whether anyone was listening before saying, “Class, we have a new transfer student today. Let’s give her a warm round of applause!”
The only clapping came from the teacher himself. Looking embarrassed, he pushed up his glasses and gestured to the girl. “Go ahead, Miss Xia, introduce yourself.”
“Alright.” The ponytailed girl nodded. She looked straight at the distracted students and smiled. “Hello, everyone. My name is Xia Fengguang.”
Her voice was clear and sweet. A number of the boys actually stopped what they were doing to stare at her. Some set down their comic books, others dropped their phones. After a beat of silence, whispers broke out across the room.
“She’s gorgeous!”
“Hey, go ask if she’s got a boyfriend!”
“Even if she does, find out if she’d mind having another.”
“Please. With me around, you guys don’t stand a chance.”
…
Every word of their chatter carried clearly to Fengguang’s ears. Her expression didn’t change. She smiled gracefully and said, “From today onward, we’re classmates. I hope you’ll all take good care of me.”
Someone hollered from the crowd, “Of course, we’ll take care of you!”
