“Feng Guang, keep hating me. The more you love An Yi, the more you loathe me. From a different perspective, he and I hold the same weight in your heart.” His tone carried a twisted sense of satisfaction, even though that satisfaction was tinged with something disturbingly extreme.
Amid that oddity, Feng Guang caught a fleeting glimpse of inexplicable sadness. She froze for a moment but quickly hardened her expression. “Give An Yi back to me.”
“I will return him to you, but before that, let’s see how far you’re willing to go for him.”
Suddenly, she slapped him across the face, leaving him stunned.
Feng Guang sneered cruelly. “How childish are you? Do you think you can force me to submit like this? You say you’ve made An Yi disappear, and I’m just supposed to believe you? Don’t be ridiculous. You’re just a ghost, and so is An Yi. Where do you get the confidence that you can beat him? Even if you claim you want to kill me, up to now, all you’ve done is cause a few natural disasters around me. You haven’t laid a finger on me. In the end, you can’t kill me yourself, can you?”
Just as Yu Shu had said, every world has its rules. If ghosts could kill humans, there would be far more unsolved cases in the world. At most, he could only manipulate his surroundings through his supernatural energy.
“Heh…” He chuckled softly, a tinge of sorrow in his voice. Releasing her, he said slowly, “You’re right. It seems I can’t do anything—not beat An Yi, not win your heart. I’ll always be the one who loses. That’s why I’m destined to be abandoned.”
“You—”
He cut her off. “You wanted An Yi? He’s right behind you.”
Feng Guang turned around to see An Yi standing at the gate of the courtyard, his eyes filled with a gentle smile. Momentarily stunned, she quickly turned back, only for her chin to be captured once more. He leaned down and kissed her again. Unlike the earlier brutal, punishing kiss, this one was heartbreakingly tender.
“Feng Guang, I’ll be waiting for you in hell.” His voice was a soft murmur that could stir anyone’s heart. Then, with a passing breeze, he vanished.
Feng Guang raised a hand to cover her mouth, standing frozen for a long time. It wasn’t until An Yi walked up to her that she snapped out of it.
“Feng Guang, are you all right?”
After a pause, she finally spoke, not with an answer but a question. “Where were you?”
“I got lost.”
“…Lost?”
“I kept wandering in circles, unable to find my way to this courtyard.”
“It must’ve been his doing!”
“He…” An Yi’s face showed a flicker of confusion. Perhaps he had recalled something or come to a realization. “Maybe he wasn’t all bad.”
“What do you mean, ‘not all bad’? You didn’t see it! Just now, he—” She bit her lip, wincing as it brushed against the wound left by the man’s earlier bite.
An Yi raised his hand, the pad of his finger lightly brushing over her injured lip. A fleeting shadow passed through his eyes, difficult to notice. “I won’t deny he’s pitiful, but that doesn’t excuse touching you. You’re mine.”
Feng Guang was momentarily startled. For a brief moment, An Yi’s demeanor reminded her of that man.
But then An Yi smiled, his expression warm and gentle, completely different from the darkness she’d just glimpsed. “Feng Guang, let’s go back. I promise you, he’ll never appear before you again.”
She couldn’t help but wonder about his confidence, but it didn’t matter. An Yi chuckled softly as if her understanding was unnecessary.
