Silence.
An eerie, deathly silence.
A single autumn leaf drifted to the ground, shattering the stillness.
“Oh no, my head hurts…” Fengguang clutched her forehead, collapsing into Xue Ran’s arms. “Divine Doctor, please help me. What’s wrong with me? I seem to be losing control of my mouth lately—I’ve already forgotten what I just said.”
Xue Ran held her up, calmly replying, “Just now, you said that Yi Wushang is a scumbag.”
Shan Ya: “…”
Yi Wushang: “…”
Fengguang looked up, pouting. Divine Doctor, why are you throwing me under the bus?!
Xue Ran merely smiled.
Shan Ya, always willing to step up, quickly broke the silence, introducing, “Alliance Leader, this is Xue Ran, the Divine Doctor, and this young lady is Miss Xia. Divine Doctor, this is our Martial Alliance Leader.”
“Alliance Leader Yi, a pleasure to meet you.”
“Divine Doctor Xue, I’ve heard much about you.”
They nodded at each other, both wordlessly choosing to pretend the awkward moment never happened.
Fengguang, meanwhile, took a small step back from Xue Ran, hoping to reduce her presence by hiding behind him—but her plan failed.
Qingyu opened a door from the adjacent room and called out, “Xia Fengguang, it’s time for your medicine.”
The air froze once more.
Fengguang sighed, rubbed her forehead, and stepped out from behind Xue Ran with a resigned wave toward Yi Wushang. “Hi, fiancé.”
Yi Wushang’s cold expression faltered just for a moment before he regained his composure. “Fengguang, what are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here? Isn’t it thanks to that little medical poisoner of yours?”
Xue Ran cleared his throat softly.
Fengguang glanced at him, then continued, “My face hasn’t healed yet, so of course I’m going wherever the Divine Doctor goes. And you? What brings you here?”
“I’ve been handling affairs in Sichuan and heard the Demon Sect leader was sighted at the Tang clan’s place, so I thought I’d come to check it out.”
Oh, please. The Demon Sect leader is you, and the Martial Alliance Leader is you—are you going to arrest yourself?
Fengguang kept a disdainful expression as she looked at Yi Wushang, even if he was undeniably good-looking. She dared to act haughty with Yi Wushang because she knew that as the righteous leader, he wouldn’t retaliate. If he showed his true colors, though, she’d run as far as she could.
Then again, after that incident in the bamboo forest, she’d already thoroughly offended Nangong Li. So what did she have to fear now?
Qingyu ignored the tense adult atmosphere and insisted coldly to Fengguang, “You need to take your medicine.”
Fengguang slapped the top of his head lightly. “Hey, kid, could you say that differently? You make it sound like I’m sick.”
Qingyu replied, annoyed, “You are sick.”
“That’s from poison, not sickness! You’re the one who’s sick! Your whole family is!” As soon as she said it, Fengguang regretted her words, clapping a hand over her mouth.
Sure enough, Qingyu’s face darkened. “I’m the only one in my family.”
With that, he turned and walked away.
Shan Ya was puzzled. “What’s gotten into Qingyu?”
“He was reminded of some old memories.” Xue Ran’s eyes held a hint of sorrow. He then reassured Fengguang, “Don’t blame yourself too much. He’ll work through it on his own.”
“I… I’ll go check on him!” Fengguang glanced at Xue Ran, momentarily forgetting about teasing Yi Wushang, and hurried off in the direction Qingyu had gone.
