Qi Wei looked at Fengguang. There was always a faint smile at the corner of his lips, but now the amusement in his eyes deepened. “Miss Xia, there’s nothing to be afraid of. It’s just an unstable power supply—it’ll be back to normal after a while.”
With a snap, the lights in the hallway went out completely. The dim corridor was now lit only by the green emergency light near the stairwell.
Qi Wei clearly felt her grip on his coat tighten. Helplessly, he said, “Perhaps… this time it might take a bit longer for the power to come back.”
That wasn’t exactly reassuring.
Suddenly, a noise echoed from somewhere. Like a startled rabbit, Fengguang immediately jumped behind him.
A voice came from Room 307: “Is that my fiancée? Have you come to see me?”
It was Nangong Zhe.
A chill ran down Fengguang’s spine. Her hands trembled as she clutched Qi Wei’s clothes, whispering, “What do we do? He noticed us.”
The way she said it made it sound like they’d been caught sneaking around together…
Qi Wei paused subtly for a second, then looked toward the door of Room 307 and said calmly, “Mr. Nangong, are you feeling alright?”
“I’d feel even better if the doctor let my fiancée come in and keep me company,” Nangong Zhe replied in a teasing tone, his words suggestive despite their simplicity.
“I’m afraid that would violate hospital regulations.”
“Of course. Doctor Qi, you’re the one who always follows the rules,” Nangong Zhe drawled lazily. “Doctor, when will I finally… get a taste of you?”
What the hell?!
A flood of wildly inappropriate images flashed through Fengguang’s mind. Before she could stop herself, she blurted out, “Don’t you dare set your sights on him!”
What shocked her wasn’t the scandalous thoughts—it was the idea of Qi Wei being on the receiving end. No way! Qi Wei was clearly meant to be the dominant one!
“My fiancée seems quite worked up,” Nangong Zhe said casually. “I only want to enjoy the doctor’s hands—the ones that hold the scalpel. I’ll leave the rest to you. Isn’t that fair?”
“Not at all!” Fengguang didn’t know where she suddenly found the courage, but she shot back, “Every part of Qi Wei belongs to me! Give up, you pervert!”
“Every part of Doctor Qi belongs to my fiancée… oh?” Nangong Zhe’s voice carried a hint of realization. “So that’s the kind of relationship you two have now? Does that mean… I should be wearing a cuckold’s hat?”
Fengguang’s face flushed red, then green. “Stop talking nonsense!”
“If I’m wrong, then why are you so worked up?” he countered lazily.
“Enough.” Seeing the conversation spiral into something increasingly bizarre, Qi Wei let out a quiet sigh and stepped in. “Mr. Nangong, Miss Xia and I do not have the kind of relationship you’re imagining. You can stop speculating.”
“Just because it’s not what I imagined… does that mean you’ve never wanted that kind of relationship?”
Qi Wei smiled. “Perhaps, Mr. Nangong, you should spend more time focusing on your condition instead of dwelling on things that don’t exist.”
“Doctor Qi, I’m perfectly healthy.”
“Then perhaps you can start by acknowledging that you’re not,” Qi Wei replied evenly.
“If I admit I’m ill… will you let me out so I can reunite with my fiancée?”
