The Empress Dowager was old and had limited energy; she would usually be resting by this time.

She only stayed up so late because Xu Lingyi was pregnant. The Empress Dowager then returned to the palace.

But the Emperor did not leave. He embraced Xu Lingyi and gently placed his hand on her stomach.

“My beloved consort.” The Emperor called to her tenderly.

“We have a child.”

Xu Lingyi nodded with a smile: “Yes, Your Majesty.”

She was actually quite annoyed. The Emperor had said this many times before, and while he didn’t find it annoying, she was tired of hearing it.

“I still can’t believe it. It all feels like a dream. I’m usually not afraid of anything, but now I’m afraid that when I wake up, it will all be an illusion.”

Xu Lingyi didn’t say anything; she couldn’t be bothered to respond.

She had originally intended to pretend to be asleep, but perhaps because of her pregnancy, she actually fell asleep.

The Emperor heard the soft breathing beside him and realized that Xu Lingyi had fallen asleep.

He carefully picked her up, placed her on the bed, covered her with a blanket, and then quietly climbed up himself.

When Chun Hua saw this, she immediately lowered the bed curtains and went downstairs with Nanny Zhang.

“Nanny, I am so happy today. The Master will have someone to rely on in the future.”

Chun Hua had long accepted Qiu Shi’s betrayal, so she was not surprised by Qiu Shi’s fate.

But she was genuinely surprised and delighted to learn that her master was pregnant.

Qiu Shi said smugly, “It’s all your fault for not knowing how to please a man. Even though the Xu family did so much for His Majesty, you still couldn’t win his favor, and even your child died.”

As Qiu Shi spoke, her smile widened, and she touched her stomach.

“But I am pregnant. Miss, for the sake of our past relationship, I originally pleaded with His Majesty to spare your life and let you serve me day and night as my servant. But His Majesty said that sparing the life of a lowly servant like you is too lenient. So, Miss, I have no choice. Don’t blame me. Who told His Majesty to despise you so much?”

Qiu Shi’s attitude at that time was so arrogant, and her tone was so smug.

Xu Lingyi still remembered that she once thought of cutting Qiu Shi into a thousand pieces, but now she had been beaten to death; it was not too easy for her.

“Qiu Shi, you know we’ve been master and servant for over a decade, so how dare you betray me? Have you forgotten that if it weren’t for me, you would have died many years ago? When I saved you, you held my hand and said you would be loyal to me for life, even unto death, and that if you betrayed me, you would suffer a terrible death.”
