Feng Guang waking up was a relief to Xia Yanyu, but she didn’t plan to let her off the hook so easily. She pulled Feng Guang aside and demanded that she recount everything that had happened that night in full detail. After all, when Yanyu received a call from Lü Meng in the middle of the night saying Feng Guang had been hospitalized, she’d panicked—she had thought Feng Guang was just spending the night at Lü Meng’s place.
With Yanyu pressing her, Feng Guang had no choice but to confess that Lü Meng had bribed her with six months’ worth of Häagen-Dazs. However, she didn’t mention a word about her soul wandering into the underworld. She had originally gone to investigate the glass-cutting incident, only to end up getting her soul dragged off by a grim reaper—an utterly humiliating experience. As the older sister, even if only by five minutes, she still had her pride.
Once Feng Guang had assured Lü Meng she was okay, Yanyu gave her a sharp look and asked coldly, “So? Did you two find anything out?”
She honestly had no idea where Feng Guang got the courage to go investigate something so obviously supernatural—it was like she had a death wish.
“Well, even though I crashed and burned, I did manage to find out a few things,” Feng Guang said through a mouthful of cake. She was still nibbling on the treat Yanyu had bought for her as a little reward for surviving the ordeal. “You know, the wounds on all those injured women had traces of resentment energy seeping out. I’m starting to suspect this was caused by a ghost.”
“Resentment energy in their wounds?” Yanyu frowned. “If it was weak enough for even you to sense, then that ghost can’t be very powerful.”
“Exactly! I mean, how weak does a ghost have to be for me to figure that out?” Feng Guang didn’t seem the least bit offended by the jab at her spiritual abilities. After all these years, she had long come to accept the fact that her cultivation level was pathetically low.
Yanyu thought for a moment before saying, “I’ll take over from here. You’re out of this.”
“You’re stepping in?”
“Of course. What if something happens to you again? I wouldn’t even know how to explain it to Mom and Dad. And besides—”
“Besides, as a cultivator, it’s your sacred duty to banish demons and protect the innocent, right?” Feng Guang cut in, rolling her eyes. “You’ve said it so many times I’ve got it memorized.”
Yanyu shot her a look. “You’d better not go sneaking around doing dangerous stuff behind my back again, got it?”
“Got it, got it,” Feng Guang replied halfheartedly, though she wasn’t planning to mention the deal she’d made with a certain man to help him catch a female ghost. Just thinking about the black talisman that had appeared in her palm when she woke up made her feel uneasy.

The next day, for the first time in a week, Feng Guang returned to campus. As usual, the moment she stepped into the elective class, Lü Meng dragged her into a corner.
“Feng Guang, thank goodness you’re okay! You have no idea how worried I was about you!” Lü Meng pulled a pile of snacks out of her backpack and shoved them into Feng Guang’s arms. “Look, all your favorites! If there’s anything else you want, just tell me—I’ll do my best to get it for you.”
Feng Guang raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Wow, you’re laying it on thick this time, huh?”
“We’re besties, aren’t we? You’re my precious darling!” Lü Meng said with lingering fear in her voice. “You didn’t see what I saw. You were lying there on the ground, and right next to you was a dead woman! Do you have any idea how terrifying that was for me?”
“Right… about that woman. Do you know who she was?”
