“To sense her spiritual energy—what did you think I was doing?” Yun Ji looked up at Xia Yanyu with a half-smile, his eyes clearly saying: Don’t assume everyone’s as perverted as you.
Yanyu choked on her words, unable to respond for a moment. Spiritual energy was such an abstract, elusive thing—it seemed like you did have to be up close to detect it.
Seeing that she no longer tried to stop him, Yun Ji lowered his head again. He gently brushed aside the bangs on Fengguang’s forehead, and as his forehead touched hers, just as he was about to close his eyes and concentrate—
He was caught off guard when his gaze locked with a pair of wide-open eyes.
He saw confusion in her clear pupils, the hazy look of someone just waking up. That dazed expression stirred a strange, dreamlike feeling in his chest. Then, as if her mind finally cleared, she realized how close he was, and her eyes widened. Her bright gaze was like that of a startled kitten. Somehow, despite just regaining consciousness, she managed to muster enough strength to shove him away.
Yun Ji hadn’t been prepared for it and stumbled backward. Thankfully, he didn’t fall completely over. When he looked again, he saw Fengguang had already jumped down from the bed barefoot and stood on the floor, blurting out one of life’s great existential questions:
“Who am I? Where am I? And how did I get here?”
Yun Ji suddenly realized—just for a moment—his heart had skipped a beat. Must’ve been his imagination.
“Fengguang, you’re awake!” Xia Yanyu cried, throwing her arms around her twin sister. “Thank God! You have no idea how worried I was!”
Fengguang had been unconscious for an entire week, and Yanyu had been anxious for that entire time. She wouldn’t even begin to describe how torturous that week had been.
As Fengguang fully came to, she asked in a daze, “Did I come back from the Underworld?”
“The what?” Yanyu blinked.
“You know…” Fengguang trailed off when she spotted Yun Ji, then asked in confusion, “Sunflower Seed Guy, why are you here?”
“I heard something had happened to you,” Yun Ji replied lightly. “I figured I’d come see if I could help. But I never expected you to be so cold. I mean, the moment you woke up, you shoved me away.” He didn’t seem to mind being called Sunflower Seed Guy, but he did look a little aggrieved about being pushed.
“Well…” Fengguang said awkwardly, “I’d just woken up. I wasn’t exactly thinking straight.”
It wasn’t her fault! The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was a man’s face just inches from her own. Of course, she panicked and reacted on instinct.
Yanyu turned to her. “Fengguang, do you know him?”
“Know him? Sort of…” Fengguang thought for a second. They’d only met twice. Once, when they sat around eating sunflower seeds and watching a drama unfold, and the other time when he’d ruined all her hard work cleaning. Back then, she’d vowed that if she ever ran into him again, she’d give him a piece of her mind.
But… she never got the chance.
Yanyu turned politely to Yun Ji. “Thank you for your help today, Senior Yun.”
“Just a moment ago, Junior Yanyu was ready to kill me, and now I get a ‘Senior Yun’? I guess this trip wasn’t a total waste,” Yun Ji said with a charming smile. “Well, since Fengguang’s fine now, I’ll take my leave.”
“Goodbye, Senior Yun,” Yanyu said with a slight glance at her still-silent sister.
Fengguang pouted and muttered, “Bye, Sunf—uh, Senior Yun…”
Yun Ji waved as he left. But once he stepped out of the apartment, the smile on his face deepened.
Her soul had left her body, and she just casually returned to it like nothing happened?
This was too interesting.
