The situation had escalated too much. When Qingli moved into Zheng Yue’s rented apartment, her family also called her.
Unlike the arrogance of the Ye family, the tone of her own family was cautious. They asked about the situation as if they were afraid of offending someone, lowering their voices: “What’s going on? Tell Mom. Although our family isn’t wealthy, we won’t stand for this. Did they go too far?”
As a mother, she knew her child well.
Qingli was gentle by nature and was never the type to pick a fight. If she had been pushed to the point of confronting Ye Minmin, it was Ye Minmin’s fault. But given their daughter’s situation, they didn’t dare say too much.
Qingli spoke softly, “Mom, it’s not that. I just want a divorce. I can’t keep putting up with them. There’s no need to keep sacrificing myself for a man, right?”
Actually, she wanted to say that it was one thing for the original Qingli to endure, but her family loved her, and they had also suffered because of her situation.
Love that drags down everyone else—what’s the point of that?
But if she said that, her parents would probably think it was their fault that the marriage was ending, which would make them even more upset.
At this moment, Qingli simply stated that she didn’t want to suffer anymore. There was a pause on the other end, and then her father, Fu Zhong, took the phone.
“Ah Li,” Fu Zhong called her name softly.
“Yes.”
Fu Zhong said quietly, “Your mom and I are not capable; we rely on you. So, you need to think this through. Just make sure you won’t regret it later. Understand?”
Fu Mother, unable to hold back, interrupted, “Ah Li I think getting a divorce is for the best.”
“Shut up!” Fu Zhong scolded, worried that his wife’s words would influence their daughter. “Don’t listen to your mom. Marriage is a big deal. We don’t oppose you, but we don’t want you to regret this decision later.”
“I won’t!” Qingli answered seriously. “I’ve thought it through. This is a well-considered decision. The gap between us wasn’t just family backgrounds, and divorce is the best outcome.”
“… That’s good.”
After the conversation, Qingli felt that her parents’ mood seemed to have improved. She hung up the phone, unable to stop herself from smiling.
Everyone thought divorce was the best option.
The original Qingli only realized this in the end.
Zheng Yue, seeing that Qingli had finished her call, asked, “What’s for dinner tonight?”
“I’ll cook. You go buy the ingredients,” Qingli smiled, replying.
Zheng Yue knew she was good at cooking, and takeout was always too greasy. Happy that Qingli offered to cook, she immediately smiled, “I’ll go right now. I want sweet and sour pork, pepper salt ribs, and steamed bass!”
“No problem!” Qingli agreed generously. Zheng Yue quickly grabbed her bag and went out. After she left, Qingli picked up the original Qingli’s notebook and looked up stocks.
The stock market hadn’t closed yet, and it was fluctuating like a heart rate monitor.
Qingli browsed through them, feeling some seemed promising. She searched online for more information and mentally noted the important details. She kept at it until the market closed, then closed her computer and went out with her ID and other documents.
The original Qingli had wanted to live a dazzling life, but just being a celebrity wasn’t enough.
After all, wouldn’t being a single, beautiful, rich woman be even better?
Ye’s Family
Two days later, a package arrived on Ye Minxing’s desk.
The once handsome, slightly disheveled young man rubbed his eyes, which had been strained from staring at the computer for so long. He glanced at the package his secretary brought and asked, “What’s this?”
After arguing with his mother two days ago, everything at the company seemed to have gotten busier. His commands were always rejected, and he often had new tasks added to his plate, making him overwhelmed and exhausted in a short amount of time.
He used to always leave work on time, occasionally even early, but now, he couldn’t even manage to shave in the mornings.
Seeing his secretary bring him something, he immediately felt a headache—was it more work?
The secretary shook her head, “I don’t know. It’s from a law firm, addressed to you personally.”
So it wasn’t work-related?
Ye Minxing was about to relax, but then Qingli’s words about divorce came to mind. His face changed slightly as he quickly tore open the package, not even using a tool to cut it open.
As expected, inside the package was a document folder.
Opening it, two stacks of papers fell out, clearly marked with the words: Divorce Agreement.
Before the secretary could leave, she caught sight of the words and immediately blinked, not daring to look further. She quickly left the office.
Good grief.
Two years ago, everyone at the company knew about Ye Minxing and Qingli’s relationship. It even led to the CEO almost being removed just to be with her.
After much struggle, a year later, they got married, and many of the female employees at the company envied them, thinking it was a fairy tale come true.
Now, these two were getting a divorce?
Ye Minxing stared at the documents, his suspicions confirmed. His heart sank, and it felt like a weight had dropped, causing his eyes to water for a moment.
So it was true—a divorce agreement.
She must have no lingering feelings left.
With trembling hands, he dialed the phone number. The call was quickly answered, and the familiar yet distant voice on the other end made his heart ache: “Signed it yet?”
The tone was strange, as though he was just another stranger to her.
Ye Minxing’s heart hurt. He whispered, “Are you really this decisive?”
Qingli had known it wouldn’t be that easy. She had come at just the right time, right before the crisis hit his career. But now, he still had feelings for the original Qingli. Divorce would take some time.
Maintaining her indifferent tone, she replied, “If you want me to not be so decisive, have your family apologize for their attitude towards me.”
Ye Minxing’s face turned pale. The grievances he had been holding back for the past two days exploded. He couldn’t hold it in any longer and questioned, “Apologize, apologize? Do you want an apology? What about me? What should I do?”
Qingli paused, then replied, “Can’t you understand? You can’t have both—fish and bear’s paws. You’re too greedy. What can you do? Just be content and don’t be so greedy.”
Ye Minxing was left speechless, unsure of how to respond.
Qingli let out a soft laugh, “What’s wrong? You don’t want to let go? You want wealth and me?” She said faintly, “Actually, it’s not impossible.”
Ye Minxing’s eyes lit up, and he admitted that Qingli was right, but her words were too sharp for him to respond. However, deep down, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation.
Then, he heard her speak slowly, “So, become the one in power, where no one can control you. But Ye Minxing, do you have what it takes?”
The light in Ye Minxing’s eyes dimmed, and he bitterly smiled, “Do you have to mock me like this?”
“Yes,” Qingli lazily nodded. “Call me when you’ve signed the papers.”
She hung up the phone after finishing her sentence.
Ye Minxing stared at the darkened phone screen in a daze, his hand tightening around the phone. After a long while, he opened the divorce agreement to take a look.
As expected, proud as she was, she didn’t ask for anything in this divorce.
She came into his life as she was, and now, she was leaving the same way.
She was so carefree that it made him look utterly ridiculous.
As if he wasn’t worth remembering at all!
Ye Minxing opened his phone again, and this time he called his mother. The call was quickly answered. Before his mother could speak, he spoke first: “Qingli wants a divorce.”
His mother’s voice was full of excitement, “Really? She’s willing to divorce you?”
Ye Minxing firmly replied, “I don’t want a divorce!”
“Ye Minxing!” his mother warned sharply, “We agreed to you being with her before, but do you see how well you two are suited? Her behavior is unworthy of being a member of the Ye family, she only lowers our status. And what did you gain from all this?”
“If it weren’t for you guys, we would have been perfect!” Ye Minxing chuckled bitterly. “Really!”
His mother’s voice turned cold, “It seems like you still haven’t learned your lesson.”
“Mom—” Ye Minxing wanted to say more, but his mother had already had enough. She believed that her son’s disobedience was because he had been spoiled. She wanted him to understand that without the Ye family, he was nothing, and that would be enough for now.
One day, he would compromise.
The call ended abruptly.
All of Ye Minxing’s thoughts were left unsaid, suffocated within him.
His anger flared up, and he slammed his hand across the desk, sending everything tumbling down, including the two divorce agreements, pushing them out of sight.
Why was everyone pushing him into a corner?
October 23rd.
It was another Saturday.
Today was the live broadcast of the third episode of “Escape from Horror.”
At 8 PM the previous Friday, the edited version of the second episode of “Escape from Horror” was released. It was even funnier than the live version, filled with highlights and funny moments that made the audience laugh uncontrollably. The show was nearly two hours long, and by cutting down to just the best bits, viewers were left holding their stomachs from laughter.
The funny moments didn’t slow down the progress of solving the escape room puzzles, though.
All of this change was brought about by Fu Qingli.
Because of this surge in popularity, at midnight on Saturday, the number of viewers in the live stream room almost doubled. Fans logged in early, eager to watch the show live.
“Ahh! I can’t wait! At the end of the last episode, I feel like Fu Qingli has gotten so much better!”
“Fu Qingli is so strong! She can face her fears head-on. If it were me, I’d be terrified, but she overcame it!”
“Did you see the edited version? Highly recommend it! She seems so gentle during the interviews, she’s such a powerful yet soft-hearted girl! I’m switching to her fan club!”
“I saw it! The way she looked into the camera when facing her fear… so determined!”
“Aww… if she hadn’t married into a rich family, I think she would’ve been a star by now!”
“Haha, it’s okay! She even slapped her sister-in-law, so the divorce is probably coming soon!”
Feng Qian was also typing excitedly.
