Shao Mingxuan choked for a moment, then, with a mix of guilt and self-righteousness, snapped, “How is that the same? Auntie Su and I are old classmates. She’s in trouble right now, so I just went to give her a hand!”

Qingli blinked her big eyes and, in her clear childish voice, deliberately dragged out her words:
“Oh~ but Mom also has a few handsome uncles here who are from the same hometown. They’re having a hard time, too. Except it wasn’t Mom who offered to help—it was me. That way, they can earn some easy money. Dad, are you saying you can help pretty aunties, but Mom and I can’t help handsome uncles?”

Then she added sweetly, “I guess this is what the books mean by ‘being lenient with yourself but harsh on others,’ right?”

Shao Mingxuan’s handsome face turned an iron-blue. His famously good temper—which countless people praised—looked like it was on the verge of collapsing in front of this infuriating daughter. “Shao Qingli! Whose daughter are you?!”

Did she really have to go this far? He was a man, after all!

Qingli answered with perfect obedience: “I’m Mom’s daughter!”

Originally, she hadn’t wanted him to. But then she remembered they’d taken a taxi over, and taxis were rare around the Green Shade Club. Most people drove themselves there—it wasn’t exactly a bustling district. Getting a cab back would be a hassle.

Shao Mingxuan exhaled sharply, tempted to let them fend for themselves.

But after what just happened, he was afraid of another “surprise situation” he couldn’t stomach. Grinding his teeth, he finally said, “Fine, I’ll come get you…” He hesitated, then asked, almost in disbelief, “Wait—you’re really at the Green Shade Club?”

Back when he’d chosen Wei Xuwei, it was because of her quiet, homely, virtuous aura.

A woman like that would never cheat.

Was it because she sensed his feelings for Su Qiu, so she deliberately dragged Qingli along just to scare him?

Qingli giggled. “Of course we’re here.” With a sweet smile, she waved at a few of the handsome men nearby. “Big brothers, can you say hi to my dad? Just call him Mr. Shao.”

Before he could stop her, different male voices—low, magnetic, and very pleasant—sounded one after another through the phone:

“Hello, Mr. Shao!”
“Good evening, Mr. Shao.”
“Mr. Shao, nice to meet you~”

They really were at the Green Shade Club!

And judging from all those voices, there were… quite a few men around them?!

Even though he knew Wei Xuwei hadn’t actually done anything, he still felt like his head was buried under a forest of green. He couldn’t hesitate another second. Grabbing his car keys, he bolted out the door.

The drive usually took over half an hour, but tonight he was pushing the speed limit the whole way. Luckily, it was late and the roads were clear. He managed to pull up in just thirty minutes.

As soon as he parked, he dialed again.

From the other end came his daughter’s impatient little voice: “Yeah, yeah, we’re coming out now.”

Two minutes later, he finally saw them emerge from the elevator—mother and daughter surrounded by a small group of young men.

Wei Xuwei looked uneasy, but that little imp of a daughter… she was holding a handsome guy’s hand on each side, reluctant to let go, as if she were already making plans to come back.

Shao Mingxuan’s face grew darker by the second. He slammed the door open and barked, “Shao Qingli! Get over here right now!”

Qingli stuck out her tongue, then skipped over cheerfully. “Thanks for picking us up, Dad. You worked hard.”

Shao Mingxuan let out a cold laugh.

Wei Xuwei kept her head down the entire time and silently climbed into the car.

Only now did she realize her daughter had played her too. That “three hundred thousand an hour” fee? Turned out three hundred thousand covered the entire night. After Qingli hung up on Shao Mingxuan earlier, Wei Xuwei noticed an hour had passed and worried they’d be charged more. That’s when she was informed—since they’d booked for the night, as long as they didn’t ask for a refund, the men would stay and “serve” them until morning.

Wei Xuwei had wanted to leave immediately—after all, it was late, and her daughter still had school tomorrow.

Elementary students couldn’t be late.

But under the men’s persuasion and her daughter’s coaxing, she ended up staying another half hour. Even on their way down, Qingli deliberately dawdled.

Now, sitting in the car, Wei Xuwei didn’t dare look Shao Mingxuan in the eye. Yet deep down, she couldn’t deny one thing: her daughter was truly clever and mischievous. With just one move, she’d completely dispelled the bitterness Wei Xuwei had felt earlier after seeing Shao Mingxuan exchange secret glances with Su Qiu.

She couldn’t be angry at her daughter. In fact, she was grateful.

Even if she would never actually touch those men, at least she now knew: no matter how Shao Mingxuan treated her, her daughter would always stand by her side.

The mother and daughter sat together in the back seat. Watching them in the rearview mirror, Shao Mingxuan felt like they were treating him as nothing more than the chauffeur. He wanted to say something, but when his eyes landed on his daughter, he remembered the humiliating tongue-lashing she’d given him earlier. His mouth opened, then shut again.

Better to wait until she wasn’t around.
