“You’re still a girl, aren’t you?!”
Qing Li frowned in annoyance. “Mom, that’s biased talking. I am a girl, but who says girls can’t do this? All the clients here are women!”
Wei Xuwei remembered seeing only female customers on the way in. Rubbing her temples, she sighed deeply. “Fine. I’ll let them in so you can play games.”
Might as well not waste the three hundred thousand.
Meanwhile—
Shao Mingxuan was strolling along the riverside with Su Qiu.
Their pace was leisurely, keeping about a person’s distance between them, but their quiet voices carried easily.
The woman’s well-maintained face no longer held the grievance or sorrow from before—only a calm smile, enjoying the cool evening breeze. Her mood seemed much lighter.
“I’m so glad you came, Senior. Talking to you really made me feel better.”
Shao Mingxuan glanced at her with concern. “It’s nothing. We’ve known each other for so many years. And besides, I wouldn’t have A Li as my daughter without you. I owe you.”
Su Qiu’s heart gave a painful twist—followed by regret.
Why had she ever introduced Wei Xuwei to Shao Mingxuan?
From his behavior lately, she could tell this wasn’t just an old classmates’ friendship—he still hadn’t let go of her.
If he’d married a woman who wasn’t so meek, she would’ve raised a fuss long ago. Divorce would’ve been easy—maybe it would’ve happened years earlier.
But Wei Xuwei was different. She worshipped her husband, meek to the point of absurdity, making her a real headache to deal with.
Su Qiu sighed and smiled faintly. “So it’s only because I gave you a lively, lovely daughter?”
Shao Mingxuan shook his head without thinking. “Of course not.”
“Then what else?” Su Qiu tilted her head at him.
Her gaze locked on his, as if he were the only person in her eyes.
His heart skipped a beat, throat tightening—he wanted to say it was because he’d liked her all these years.
But the timing was wrong. They were both married, and both had kids. So he swallowed the words. “Also, back in the student council, thanks to you getting sponsorships, I could run the events successfully and earn the school’s praise over and over.”
Su Qiu wasn’t disappointed. In matters of the heart, an exchanged glance was enough to convey the truth. Adults didn’t need to spell everything out. She smiled brightly. “Speaking of which—you never did treat me to dinner for that, did you?”
“This is me treating you—right now. How about we go now?” Shao Mingxuan chuckled.
Su Qiu shook her head. “I’m tired. I’ve been out for a while, and if I don’t get home, my little troublemaker will cause chaos. I already upset him yesterday. Another day—we’ll go out then.”
“Alright.” He agreed easily, making plans to see her again.
After dropping her off and watching her go inside, he finally drove home.
But when he got there, the place was empty—it was late, and even A Li wasn’t home. Strange.
He hesitated, then knocked on the housekeeper’s door. “Where’s Madam?”
“She? After dinner, Miss A Li dragged her out to have some fun.”
Dragged her out?
Something felt wrong. He called his daughter.
When Qing Li’s smartwatch rang, the private room was in full swing—three people in the middle of a heated poker game.
The trained male hosts were earning their keep.
Although Wei Xuwei had resisted at first, once the men came back in, they got her to relax within a few exchanges. Just chatting—nothing to be nervous about.
Soon enough, she was laughing and talking with them.
Now she was sipping milk tea and playing cards, clearly enjoying herself.
Qing Li, meanwhile, was in a five-person gaming squad with four of the guys.
One more, who couldn’t play cards or games, was shelling sunflower seeds for her, pouring tea, and chatting with Wei Xuwei—keeping the mood light.
Everyone was having fun, but when the call came through, Qing Li was fine, while Wei Xuwei, caught up in the fun, suddenly felt guilty.
“It’s your dad, isn’t it?” she asked.
Qing Li grinned. “Mom, relax. We’re just chatting with some handsome guys, and we’re here together—no one will misunderstand. If he’s upset, he’s in no position to say anything after doing the same himself. We’re the innocent ones here—he’s the one who should feel guilty.”
Hiding it would only fuel suspicion.
Wei Xuwei drank some water, still distracted, her playing card hovering in mid-air.
But as her daughter said, they were just chatting and gaming—nothing more.
And after what Shao Mingxuan had done, if she didn’t feel a little vindictive, she’d be lying. Until now, reason had kept her in check—but at this moment…
She didn’t stop her.
Qing Li happily answered the call. “Hi, Dad.”
“Where are you and your mom? Why aren’t you home yet?”
“We’re in a private room at the Green Shade Club, but we’re about to head back. No need to pick us up.”
Green Shade Club???
Wei Xuwei might not know, but Shao Mingxuan, who often entertained clients—both male and female—did.
It was a host club.
The joy from his earlier riverside talk evaporated instantly, replaced by the feeling that the “green shade” was now growing thick right on his head. He almost lost it. “What are you doing in a place like that? Did your mom take you there, or someone else?”
“I brought Mom!” Qing Li said as if it were obvious. “Spent most of my allowance on it too!”
Allowance she’d been saving for ages.
“???”
His voice rose. “Do you even know what that place is? How could you take your mother there?!”
Qing Li laughed. “Because you’re always chatting with pretty aunties, so I wanted Mom to chat with some handsome uncles. Is that not okay?”
Shao Mingxuan: “…”
