WBSGVS Chapter 170 V2

What trash. All he could do was hurl verbal attacks.

If this had been the old Qingli—the one who still loved him—those words would have cut deep, leaving her flustered and ashamed.

But the woman who loved him was long gone.

Qingli’s gaze turned even colder, but her lips curled into a confident smile. She replied smoothly,
“Exactly. Good to know you finally realized it.”

Huo Qingli!” Shen Yanjun’s face twisted in anger. He could practically see the metaphorical green on his head, his jaw clenched so tightly it ached, and his tone dripped with hostility.
“We’re not officially divorced yet!”

Qingli raised an eyebrow, as if remembering something.
“Perfect timing. I’ve been meaning to ask—you’ve had the signed divorce agreement for a while now. When are you free to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau and finalize it? Tomorrow’s a workday. How about 10 a.m.?”

Shen Yanjun, caught up in his emotional spiral, was completely thrown off.

Wait… she’s the one eager to get it done?

He didn’t respond. Just stared at her in silence, stunned.

His instincts screamed at him not to go to the bureau. He’d had too much to drink tonight. Tomorrow, he’d feel awful.

Right—that was exactly why he didn’t want to go!

Shen Yanjun pressed his lips together and said coldly, “I would go, but I’ve got something tomorrow.”

“Then the day after tomorrow,” Qingli replied smoothly.

As if getting a divorce certificate was no more serious than scheduling lunch, it was that casual for her.

Shen Yanjun felt like he couldn’t breathe. He extinguished the cigarette between his fingers by pressing it hard into the sand above the trash can, his voice low and heavy:
“Qingli, whether we get divorced or not is up to me.”

Qingli looked at him like he was an idiot and retorted, “Don’t forget, we live in a country where marriage is a personal freedom. I have a say too. I’ll give you two more days—if you still don’t go, I’ll just file for divorce in court.”

BANG—! Before she even finished, Shen Yanjun kicked the trash can with a darkened face, venting his anger.

The noise didn’t affect Qingli in the slightest.

She simply watched him, calm as ever.

All the feelings she once had for Shen Yanjun seemed to vanish completely in just this short period. Was she so eager to divorce because she had someone new?

Just the thought of her walking down the aisle someday in a wedding dress for another man made Shen Yanjun’s chest tighten with frustration. He looked away, flustered.
“We’ll talk later. I’ve got things to do.”

Not waiting for a response, he brushed past her and left.

There was a trace of escape in his stride.

Qingli wrinkled her nose in distaste, waving away the cigarette smoke he left in his wake.

What a stupid and disgusting man. Not only was he clueless about his own feelings, but he lashed out at women instead.

So it was fine for him to bring another woman along tonight, but Qingli dancing with someone else meant she had moved on?
She didn’t understand what the original her ever saw in someone like that!

Still thinking about it, Qingli walked back. Just then, two kids, around five or six, came giggling and pushing a wheelchair. The man in the chair showed no reaction, like he was completely indifferent, even as they neared a dangerous ledge.

Qingli had a bad feeling and rushed forward. Sure enough, the kids didn’t stop in time at the steps leading down to the back garden.

“Ahhh—!” One of them screamed as the wheelchair rolled forward, with the man still in it.

Qingli ran faster. Just in time, she grabbed the wheelchair with one hand and lifted a kid with the other. The chair, tilting forward, was yanked back by her force just before toppling down.

She had stabilized it!

Qingli exhaled in relief.

Hearing the commotion, a few staff members rushed over. The kids were bawling, but the man in the chair remained eerily calm.

“Thank you, miss. We’ll take it from here. Did anything spill or get on you?” the head attendant asked.

Qingli shook her head. “No, it’s fine.”

Huo Qingyu hurried over. He glanced her over, visibly relieved she wasn’t hurt. Then he turned to the still-crying kids, his brow furrowing.

A young man nearby muttered under his breath, “Whose kids are those? So unruly.”

A wheelchair isn’t a toy.

Qingli was curious too—originally, the old her was so obsessed with Shen Yanjun that she barely knew anyone. She looked at Huo Qingyu.

He explained, “One kid’s from the Zheng family, the other’s a relative of the Chi family. That guy in the chair is Chi Yue—the only son of the Chi family. I heard they wanted to adopt a relative’s child as a successor, but Chi Yue’s against it.”

Qingli remembered—Chi Yue was the same age as Shen Yanjun’s older brother. They were rivals in everything growing up—grades, racing, you name it. But after a terrible accident, Chi Yue was left paralyzed, and Shen Yanjun’s brother died. That was when everything quieted down.

From then on, the Shen and Chi families became mortal enemies.

Supposedly, the accident happened because Shen Yanjun’s brother’s girlfriend fell for Chi Yue. Shen’s family had two sons—Chi’s only had Chi Yue. After he was crippled, the Chi family had no other heir. They tried for another through IVF but failed repeatedly, so they turned their hopes to extended relatives’ kids.

Qingli thought: No wonder Chi Yue refused. And with behavior like that from those kids, even if adopted, they wouldn’t turn out well.

Why should someone’s rightful inheritance go to kids like that?

Might as well donate it to the state when you die.

Just then, Huo Qingyu nudged her arm.

She looked at him and followed his gesture—an elegant couple was approaching, smiling warmly.

The woman greeted her gratefully, “Young lady, thank you so much. If not for you, who knows how badly A-Yue would’ve been hurt? Thank you.”

“It’s no big deal, just something anyone would’ve done,” Qingli smiled. “But you should keep an eye on your kids when they’re playing—next time, you might not be so lucky.”

The woman’s smile froze for a moment. She sighed. “You’re right. I’ll make sure they’re disciplined.”

She thanked Qingli again, asked her name, and got her contact information before leaving with her husband and Chi Yue. Another man rushed after them, carrying the scolded child.

Huo Qingyu whispered, “Why’d you get involved? What if something happened?”

Qingli shrugged. “I don’t owe them anything. Why should I be afraid?”

He gave her a long, searching look, as if trying to see right through her.

She just smiled. “Something on your mind?”

“You’ve changed a lot,” he muttered. Love really could make people rise from the ashes… scary stuff.
He added with a sigh, “The Chi family’s the Shen family’s enemy. You’re completely done for now.”

If Qingli had any intention of reconciling with the Shens, that door was now shut. Shen Yanjun’s mother adored her eldest son—and hated the Chi family.

But hearing that, Qingli’s eyes suddenly lit up.
