Lin Qiao thought that he was going to win, but when it was Aunt Wang’s turn to play, he made a pair, forming three pairs, which turned into a winning hand again. If Aunt Liu hadn’t played the last 8 of Wan on the table, which Aunt Zhang won with, he might have been able to complete the hand.
“Looks like you haven’t learned very well after all~”
Seeing that even someone as smart as him could lose, Lin Qiao felt much better and rested her chin on his shoulder from behind while staring at the game.
Su Zhengxing just smiled and didn’t say anything.
Two more rounds were played, and Aunt Wang and Aunt Liu each won once.
“Oh dear, it seems that having family members involved isn’t very useful after all. Xiao Lin, you’ll have to ask your family member to reimburse you for the fruit today!” Aunt Liu teased her with a smile.
“Did you hear that? You lost, so you’re paying for it.” Lin Qiao nudged him, making no mention of the previous two rounds.
Su Zhengxing took her hand and placed it on his lap, patting the back of her hand lightly. He glanced sideways and raised an eyebrow, saying, “Watch closely.”
The automatic mahjong machine lowered and rose again, the neatly stacked blue mahjong tiles reappearing on the table. After drawing all his tiles, Su Zhengxing quickly assembled a hand. Then, strange things began to happen. With only one stack of tiles left, almost everything he drew or discarded by the other aunties was the tile he needed. He won within just over ten minutes of the game starting.
“A Big Four of Winds! Good job, young man!” Aunt Wang praised.
In the next two rounds, Su Zhengxing won eight hands in a row, leaving the three aunties at the table almost speechless with frustration.
“I just remembered I have soup simmering on the stove at home. I’m not playing anymore. I’ll play another time.”
After five rounds, Aunt Liu, whose mahjong skills were the weakest, had lost the most. Wanting to cut her losses, she pushed the mahjong tiles into the machine to shuffle and got up.
Aunt Wang, seeing this, also said, “Oh dear, it’s so late. My granddaughter is almost out of school, so I have to leave.”
Aunt Zhang couldn’t continue playing either. Her previously rosy complexion seemed to have dimmed a bit.
She cleared her throat and said sincerely, “Xiao Lin, from now on, we’re not allowed to bring family members to our mahjong games!”
Lin Qiao knew that the aunties were just saying it and weren’t really angry, so she suppressed a laugh and quickly nodded: “Okay, okay.”
Just outside the senior activity center is a fruit supermarket. Aunt Liu was going to buy some seasonal fruit to share with everyone, but Su Zhengxing quickly grabbed three large fruit gift boxes and presented them to the aunties.
“Aunt Wang, Aunt Zhang, Aunt Liu, nice to meet you all. This is a small token of my appreciation for taking care of my Xiao Lin. I apologize for any offense I may have caused today and hope you won’t be angry. Please take me with you next time.”
Su Zhengxing had brought the most expensive gift box from the fruit supermarket. The aunties weren’t people who couldn’t afford fruit, so at first, they didn’t think that it was necessary to receive it. But after hearing him say he wanted them to continue taking him out to play, they relaxed their reservations and accepted the gift after a slight refusal.
Su Zhengxing truly lived up to his reputation as a master; after winning eight games in a row against the aunties, he still managed to earn their endless praise before they left.
