Following Su Zhengxing’s instructions, Lin Qiao went to Shangwang Village early the next morning, then took a rural minibus, and finally found Xiawang Village, where Liu Bolu was.
“Are you sure that a national treasure-level leader like Liu Bolu lives in this kind of village?” Lin Qiao looked at the dilapidated and desolate village in front of her, unbelievably.
“The third house on the left after entering the village, with two jujube trees in front of the door, is his residence.”
Beside the old cement-paved road are fields. It is winter now. The green wheat is shivering in the cold wind like leeks. There are also some chickens and ducks scattered on the roadside, strolling leisurely by the pond, pecking at the water.
Lin Qiao continued to walk forward, and sure enough, she saw two jujube trees at the door of the third house on the left.
It was an extremely plain bungalow, with red bricks and black tiles, mud-clad iron windows, and an old wooden door covered with faded Spring Festival couplets.
Was this really the house of a world-renowned national treasure-level architect, rather than the house of some lonely elderly person left behind in the countryside?
The door of the house was not closed. Lin Qiao went forward cautiously and knocked on the door.
As soon as she approached, she saw an old man lying on a rattan chair in the room, leisurely drinking tea and reading a book.
The old man was wearing a blue cloth shirt, the style was an old-fashioned cotton military uniform, and a pair of liberation shoes on his feet.
Behind the old man was a whole wall of photos of great men. Under the incense table was a table with some unfinished lunch.
Hearing the knock on the door, the old man put down the book and sat up in the rattan chair, looking over strangely with his thin and sunken eyes.
Liu Bolu hadn’t seen young people in this village for a long time. He didn’t know since when, but the countryside had become synonymous with the elderly, the weak, and loneliness. Those elderly people were abandoned here by the tide of time, lonely and depressed.
So when Liu Bolu first saw Lin Qiao, he felt very strange.
“Who are you looking for?” Liu Bolu asked.
Lin Qiao approached and directly stated her purpose, “Excuse me, are you Mr. Liu Bolu?”
Liu Bolu looked her up and down suspiciously and said, “No. You’ve found the wrong person.”
After Liu Bolu returned to China, the country made good arrangements for him, but he was already tired of being the center of attention and living in the glory of the past, so he moved to the small village where he had lived in his youth.
Only a few of his direct disciples knew this address. During the holidays, his disciples would bring their families to visit him. He felt at ease since they were all familiar with each other.
However, this place was later discovered by some media reporters, who came to disturb him from time to time. Liu Bolu asked his apprentice to negotiate seriously with them, and finally, they stopped.
Now that he saw Lin Qiao, he thought that it was those annoying reporters again, so he simply said that she had found the wrong person.
“It’s him.” Su Zhengxing identified him by voice.
Lin Qiao took a deep breath and tried to make herself look friendly.
“Mr. Liu, please don’t be so hasty to deny it. Why don’t you listen to what news I bring you before you answer?”
Liu Bolu didn’t know what the little girl was up to, so he didn’t say anything and waited for her next words.
