Good Dad System [Arc 1] Chapter 2.2: Father, He Is A Great Man (4)
She didn’t have no feelings for Pei Naochun, and with this expectation in mind, she chose to go home, but the other party seemed to know her bottom line and kept pushing further.
Since her salary was not low, Pei Naochun began to dare to donate all the money he had set aside. Today this student has no money to eat, tomorrow that student has money to pay for tuition, and the day after tomorrow there is a child in the mountainous area who is so pitiful… Su Xiuzhen went from paying for the water and electricity at home, paying for the household expenses, and later even started to provide living expenses for Pei Naochun.
Sometimes she disliked herself for being “cheap”, and she didn’t know why, but just like that, the days passed day by day.
In the third year after marriage, a little life came to this family. Despite all the conflicts between Su Xiuzhen and Pei Naochun during pregnancy, this child still brought a lot of happiness to Su Xiuzhen. She even began to look forward to it. After having children, Pei Naochun can have a sense of responsibility and be responsible for the children and the family.
Of course, she soon realized that all this was a delusion. Her husband remained the same, without any change, and continued to be this great benefactor outside. He didn’t even think much about whether the family’s expenses would be enough after having a child.
After having a child, Su Xiuzhen began to accept her fate. She didn’t want her daughter to have no father, and she didn’t want her daughter to grow up in rumors. On the one hand, she tried to accept everything in front of her. She saved some money for her daughter’s future expenses, but on the other hand, she was still very resentful. She resented that her husband’s kindness only extended to outsiders and refused to take a look at the family.
Pei Chuqing grew up in such a family. She knew how famous her father was as a “good man” and how many people he had helped. She also knew how irresponsible her father was.
Her father is a junior high school teacher and her mother is a nurse in a county hospital. No one would believe her if she said her family had no money, but she has never lived a slightly affluent life.
She only knows that when she buys a new pair of shoes or a new dress, her father will sigh and say that she lives a luxurious life, and how many meals can she feed others with this little money in the countryside.
She only knew that if she wanted to dress up beautifully and go to the park with her friends, her father would say, how pitiful many children have never seen the park gate in their lives, so why not donate the ticket money.
All she knew was that she had to sew her schoolbag if it was torn, buy bigger clothes instead of smaller clothes because they would last longer, and there was no need to go out to play… all of this was because she had an overly kind father.
Pei Naochun’s heart began to ache when he recalled this. In his memory, Pei Chuqing’s clothes had never fit him well, and the backpack he had carried since elementary school…
And the reason for the quarrel that happened today is even more absurd.
A chorus competition was held in Pei Chuqing’s school. Their class came first and was selected to participate in the competition in the city. The teacher leading the group required them to dress neatly in a white shirt, black pants, and black leather shoes.
Pei Chuqing didn’t have such clothes. Su Xiuzhen saved some money and planned to take her daughter to the mall to buy it on the weekend. However, while eating at noon today, she heard her husband suddenly say: “I’ll take the money in the drawer first. I took it and used it. There was a child in the school who was diagnosed with leukemia and called for donations…”
Su Xiuzhen’s hands were trembling, she couldn’t bear it anymore, and she got angry at Pei Naochun: “What about my daughter’s clothes?”
“You can borrow it.” Pei Naochun didn’t care.
She had a hysterical argument with her husband, and almost made a move, but saw her husband stagger and fainted on the ground. It was at this time that Pei Naochun from 3000 AD entered this body.
If Pei Naochun hadn’t come, the fight would have been explosive. Su Xiuzhen borrowed unfitting clothes for her daughter with red eyes. Pei Chuqing wore these clothes and went on stage with her classmates. The performance ended with red eyes, after stepping down from the stage, she hid in the corner and cried loudly.
Su Xiuzhen found her daughter backstage, hugged her and coaxed her. She collapsed in front of her daughter’s words: “Why is my father such a good man?” She realized that her forbearance not only caused her pain, but also made her suffer and also made her daughter sad.
When she returned home, she resolutely filed for divorce from Pei Naochun. Even if she had to face rumors, she started her life again with her daughter.
Before she left, she stood at the door of her home, looked at her bewildered husband, and said sarcastically: “Not everyone can be a good person like you. You are kind-hearted and don’t drag us, mother and daughter, to suffer together.”
Pei Chuqing, who left home with her mother, was happier and more comfortable than ever before. Although she often heard gossip from outsiders, she no longer felt as depressed as before.
She occasionally heard about Pei Naochun, heard that the great benevolent person had donated money again, and heard that the great benevolent person had helped others again, but it had nothing to do with them.
Pei Chuqing thought everything was over, but everything about her childhood left a deep mark on her bones.
She loves shopping and collecting. As long as she wants it, she will have it. She hates people saying she is a good person, and she hates doing charity even more, even if she faces the confusion of others, the cynicism of her competitors, the tax avoidance requirements of accountants, and even with her boyfriend. Therefore, after arguing several times, she never wavered.
In her life, she hated being a good person the most.
There is no explanation in the novel. Pei Chuqing later returned to her hometown once. She walked into the dilapidated house that she thought she would never enter again, and looked coldly at the extremely thin man. He had obviously done many good things, but in his sixties, at a young age, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He was famous all over the world and helped countless people. However, they would rather donate some money and send a representative to see him once, but no one was willing to actually take care of him.
“Do you regret it?” she asked condescendingly. She wanted to hear those words every time in the dead of night.
The man shook his head blankly, greeted her with a smile, and wanted to show her some of the children he had sponsored recently—even if he was sick and had no money for treatment, he did not stop donating money.
Pei Chuqing turned around and went out, squatted outside and shed tears. She called for a nurse, but she never came back.
Later, the man left.
She should feel happy, but it was heartbreaking. She held the funeral for her irresponsible father, and watched in silence as countless people came to the mourning hall to pay homage to her father and offer incense.
She didn’t feel moved, only absurd.
What went wrong?

Haha what a bunch of bitches.
Get a job you lady bitch.
Ngl, the heroine has a brilliant setting. I would love to read that
Tbh I thought he was actually evil or abusive tbh, he’s just too kind
You serious? Cause even with little common sense, I think anyone can easily see that that person has double standards. He was only ever kind to those outside but never to himself nor towards his own family.
If anything, pretty sure he was abusive, among other things. Given how he kept making the Mum work for all fo their expenses and his “kind” acts whilst also robbing his family of a good life. He didn’t stop at his own salary but also stole what the Mum made.
If you still call that kind, you don’t deserve a family since I’m pretty sure that’s fake and you are mostly doing it just for your own satisfaction in reality.
To the commenter that said “he was too kind”, you call working your wife to the bone and your child getting emaciated from hunger and yearning being “too kind”?
I call it willfully obtuse with delusions of grandeur
