TFSRITA Chapter 138

The police officer’s stern tone softened as he looked at the beautiful young girl before him and asked, “What’s your relationship with them?”

Yan Qing replied truthfully, “They took over my parents’ assets and sold me to the Chu family. The Chu family was kind enough to adopt me.”

The officer fell silent.

Initially, he had intended to sternly lecture this seemingly brash young girl, but as the questioning continued, it became clear she was the real victim—and her story was logical and compelling.

At that moment, Chu Yang arrived with a lawyer. After briefly speaking with Yan Qing, he hurried off to the hospital.

With the lawyer present, Yan Qing didn’t need to explain much.

In no time, Yan Qing was released on bail. As for the Yan family, they would have to wait for the medical evaluation to determine any necessary compensation.

The lawyer reassured her, “You did well. Since there’s a record of him committing domestic violence against you, your actions count as an excessive but defensive reaction. As long as there aren’t severe injuries, they can’t press serious charges.”

Yan Qing was grateful. “Thank you. How much do I owe you for your services? I can pay you directly.”

The lawyer, refined and courteous, waved it off generously. “No need. The boss has already covered it. Besides, we don’t often have cases to work on, so this was hardly an effort.”

The lawyer worked for the Chu family, handling lawsuits related to infringements and disputes. However, given the Chu family’s wealth and influence, these incidents were rare. Most of the time, the lawyers earned side income elsewhere, but opportunities were limited. This time, the lawyer happened to be in the right place at the right time to take on the case.

Yan Qing wanted to say more, but her phone suddenly rang.

“Qingqing, hurry over here. Your voice doesn’t seem to be working for Zhao anymore!”

Her expression changed, and without another word, she bid the lawyer a hasty goodbye. Hailing a cab, she rushed straight to the hospital.

As she was leaving, she faintly heard Yan Min screaming as she finished her statement: “Why does she get to leave? She hurt someone! How can she walk away so easily?!”

When Yan Qing arrived, Chu Zhao was on the hospital bed, thrashing slightly. His face was twisted with pain, his body flushed from exertion, and his eyes were bloodshot. His hands were restrained, and his struggles were causing the marks to redden further.

The moment Yan Qing walked in, Zhou Huaiya immediately called out, “Qingqing, please, talk to him. Calm him down!”

“Alright, I will,” Yan Qing replied, stepping forward quickly.

Standing beside the bed, she spoke softly, “Chu Zhao, I’m here…”

Jiang Cheng, observing from the side, noticed how Chu Zhao’s agitation visibly lessened the moment Yan Qing spoke.

Yan Qing continued gently, “Chu Zhao, are you feeling uncomfortable somewhere? Would you like me to rub it for you?”

Her voice was soft and soothing, like a gentle breeze on a sweltering summer day, bringing instant relief.

The fog in Chu Zhao’s mind began to lift. The intense pain dulled, and the overwhelming irritation that had consumed him began to subside. He tried to move his hands but realized they were bound.

“My hands hurt…” he murmured hoarsely, barely audible.

The entire room relaxed visibly.

As long as Chu Zhao could regain clarity, there was hope. What everyone feared most was the possibility of permanent confusion, as Jiang Cheng had cautioned.

Yan Qing also sighed in relief. A smile blossomed on her sweat-dappled face, soft and radiant as she gazed at Chu Zhao.

Chu Zhao, looking at her, was momentarily stunned by her beauty.

When he noticed Yan Qing massaging his bound hands, his cheeks flushed red with embarrassment.

Her hands were so soft, he thought to himself, and he wanted to hold them tightly.

Yet, feeling her gentle grip, his fingers relaxed, going limp under her touch, like a cat being soothed—docile and pliant.

The frustration Yan Qing had felt earlier from dealing with the Yan family dissipated as she saw his watery eyes and the faint blush on his pale face. Sitting beside the bed, she asked softly, as though chatting casually, “Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere else?”

Chu Zhao blinked, the redness fading from his skin. He shyly raised his other wrist, showing her the faint red marks. “This one hurts too…”

Yan Qing moved to his other side and gently examined the mark. Her thumb pressed lightly as she began to massage it. With a playful smile, she asked, “Does this feel better?”

Her round, fox-like eyes curved as she smiled, her long lashes fluttering like delicate fans, tugging at Chu Zhao’s heartstrings.

Chu Zhao nodded seriously. “Much better now.”

Yan Qing chuckled and said, “Oh, guess what? Something great happened to me today. Want to hear about it?”

Chu Zhao nodded again, his interest piqued. “Yes, I do.”

Yan Qing grinned. “Some troublemakers tried to bully me today, but I beat them all!”

Chu Zhao’s eyes brightened, and he sincerely praised her, “You’re amazing.”

Yan Qing felt slightly embarrassed, as though she were coaxing compliments from a child, but she still smiled and said, “Thank you.”

Standing nearby, the three members of the Chu family exchanged glances. They were both envious and relieved.

Envious, because Chu Zhao’s attitude toward Yan Qing was different from anyone else. Relieved, because without Yan Qing, Chu Zhao’s distress might have dragged on much longer.

Still, the family shared a silent concern—what if even Yan Qing’s voice stopped working next time?

On the way home, Chu Zhao sat in the middle seat with Yan Qing and Zhou Huaiya on either side and Chu Yang in the front passenger seat.

Chu Zhao had fully calmed down and seemed back to normal.

Yan Qing finally learned that before her arrival, Chu Zhao had already been given a sedative. However, despite the dosage being the same as usual, its effect on him had noticeably weakened. It had only partially calmed him, leaving him restless rather than fully subdued.
