Guan Yi felt utterly hopeless.
Sigh… this heartless woman. Once I’m gone, she’ll probably find someone else in no time.
Just don’t let me find out who that bastard is.
Otherwise, even if I become a zombie, I’ll hunt him down and bite him to death.
When they were about a kilometer away from the base, Guan Yi stopped the bike and said, “I’ll drop you off here. Go back on your own — I’m leaving.”
Ming Ming didn’t get off. “Where are you going? Let’s head back already — don’t waste time.”
Guan Yi gave her a bitter smile, got off the bike, and showed her his wound. The skin around it had already turned dark blue. When he took off his helmet, his face was pale and lifeless, his pupils starting to dilate.
He was turning into a zombie.
Forcing a calm smile, he told her softly, “I can’t go back with you. Once you’re home—”
Before he could finish, Ming Ming grabbed his face and kissed him hard. He tried to pull away, but she didn’t let him.
She kissed him anyway.
“There,” she said, shrugging nonchalantly. “Now we’re basically the same.”
“Are you insane?!” Guan Yi roared.
“Less talking, more moving! Get back to the base now. Dr. An can save you. You won’t die, and I won’t either. But if we don’t hurry, we’ll both end up as outdoor zombies waiting for someone to pick us up!”
Guan Yi was completely confused, but from her words, he vaguely gathered that An Ning might actually have a cure.
“Damn it, you really are crazy!” he cursed for the first time, then jumped back on the bike and sped toward the base.
When they arrived, he dragged Ming Ming off the motorcycle — didn’t even bother picking it up after it fell — and shouted, panicked, “An Ning! Dr. An!”
People nearby were startled by his appearance and started yelling, “Quick! Go get Dr. An! The captain’s infected!”
An Ning was in the middle of giving out vaccines when she heard the commotion. She grabbed a vial and rushed over.
“What happened?!” she gasped when she saw him. “When did you get infected? Why didn’t anyone report this?”
Guan Yi stared at her. “You’ve made an antidote, haven’t you?”
“Yeah, sort of. It’s still unstable, but if you haven’t fully mutated, it’ll definitely work. For ability users, it slows down zombification. Lucky for you, you’re not completely gone yet. Don’t talk — let me give you the shot first.”
Guan Yi quietly let out a breath of relief and pushed Ming Ming forward. “Give it to her first.”
An Ning looked at him — half-zombified — then at Ming Ming, who looked perfectly fine.
“We kissed,” Ming Ming said flatly.
An Ning’s jaw dropped. Her expression turned accusatory as she looked back at Guan Yi. “I didn’t realize you were such a pervert. You thought you were dying, so you decided to drag someone down with you?”
Guan Yi was speechless. “No, I—”
Ming Ming’s face turned red. Embarrassed, she pinched him hard in the side.
“Ah— ow!”
Forget it, he thought. If my wife’s a freak, then I’m a freak. Must’ve rubbed off on her. It’s all my fault anyway.
After they got the antidote, An Ning gave them a few instructions and went back to vaccinating others. Guan Yi called her over again, coughed awkwardly, and asked, “So… after this, it’s not contagious anymore, right? How long before the marks fade?”
An Ning gave him a look. “You mean, can you have sex without reinfecting her?”
Guan Yi: “…”
“…Yeah,” he admitted.
An Ning stared at him silently.
Guan Yi took her silence as confirmation. “Alright, great. I’m going home then.” He turned, very pleased with himself, and dragged Ming Ming away.
“What did you just ask her?” Ming Ming asked curiously.
“Nothing,” Guan Yi said, acting all serious — but the moment they got to the bedroom, he was anything but serious. “How’d you even know An Ning could save me?”
Ming Ming looked away. “I… I’m not telling you.”
He didn’t press her. In his mind, she’d clearly done it because she loved him so much — she’d rather die with him than live without him.
She loves me more than she ever loved that ex-husband of hers! He thought proudly. She didn’t die for him, but she would for me!
That thought made his brain fire up — and not just his brain.
“Babe,” he grinned, “wanna try a little zombie roleplay?” He started undressing.
Ming Ming stared at him in disbelief. How can this man be horny anywhere, anytime?!
“What’s so surprising?” Guan Yi said, pushing her onto the bed. “Didn’t you complain about doing it outdoors before? Now we’ve got a bed.”
Ming Ming eyed his bloodshot eyes nervously. “Wait—you’re a zombie, right? Can zombies even… get it up?”
Guan Yi gave her a wicked grin. “Wanna find out?”
…
No one knows if it worked, but that night the captain’s bed collapsed.
He ended up getting kicked out by his furious wife and slept in the mess hall for days.
People at the base gossiped about it for weeks.
Ming Ming’s official statement was: “I’m a single mom of five, my ex-husbands are all dead, and I’m as single as a woman can be!”

The following spring, Dr. An’s vaccine and antidote went into mass production. Humanity finally saw the dawn of a new era.
“Captain, the European division has requested a meeting to exchange research and discuss the future of human development—”
Guan Yi waved a hand impatiently. “Go find Dr. An. Tell her: take advantage whenever you can, never take a loss, haggle hard, and don’t go easy on those foreigners.”
“What about you, Captain?”
“Me? I’m busy planning my wedding. No time!”
An Ning poked her head out. “What? You’re getting married? Then why not trick those Europeans into coming and giving you wedding gifts?”
A light bulb went off above Guan Yi’s head. “Brilliant! That’s the plan!”
“Wifey! I just got us wedding sponsors!” he said proudly as he went looking for Ming Ming.
“Wife?” He couldn’t find her anywhere. “Where’s my wife?!”
Someone pointed. “I think she’s in the backyard digging something.”
When he got there and saw what she was doing, he panicked. “Honey! What are you doing?!”
Ming Ming was digging a hole to bury something.
“Don’t stop me! I have to bury these little monsters of yours!”
“How can you be so heartless? They’re your own children!”
“Like hell they are!” she shouted.
“No way! You can’t bury them — they’re our little turtle babies! I’ll count on them to take care of us when we’re old!”
Ming Ming: “…”
Guan Yi rescued his poor “sons,” cleaned and disinfected them carefully, then pulled out one of his tentacles, laying it across the table. It had five suction cups, each one holding one of the turtle eggs, bouncing them up and down like some weird juggling trick.
He said gently, “If you really don’t like them, they can just be decorations.”
Ming Ming wanted to gouge her eyes out.
Dr. An’s medicine could dissolve mutations, but not purge abilities from ability users.
Ming Ming had genuinely hoped Guan Yi’s tentacles would disappear.
They didn’t.
Worse — he started leaving them all over the house, claiming they were for decoration.
In reality, wherever she went, some tentacle would sneak up, wrap around her, touch her, tease her.
It wasn’t a home — it was a den of perversion!
Outrageous!
But resistance was futile. Under Captain Guan’s tyrannical rule, Ming Ming’s days of torment would stretch on… and on…
Spring sunlight shone bright. Humanity had regained its peace. Though rebuilding the world would be hard, people no longer bowed to fate.
They would reclaim the world with their own hands.
Ming Ming: “That’s right! I won’t bow to fate! You hear me—ahhh! Guan Yi, you bastard! Stay away from me! I’ll fight you to the death!!!”
