Chapter 86 — The Captain’s Little Widow
◎ Don’t move, honey — I just need to take a leak ◎
Ming Ming had finally been bullied enough — she was furious and refused to talk to Guan Yi.
She turned away and curled up, ignoring all his attempts to coax her.
Guan Yi pressed a kiss to the back of her neck, breathing in her scent. “Baby, you smell so good…”
Ming Ming said nothing. Guan Yi just kept muttering to himself, “C’mon, baby, talk to me. I’m crazy about you. I just wanted to make sure you’re mine. Baby, you do love me, right?”
His lips trailed all over her pale neck and back, mumbling between kisses, “Of course you do. I mean, where else are you gonna find a guy this handsome and caring? You hit the jackpot, wifey…”
Ming Ming panicked — afraid he’d get carried away again — and quickly turned around, snapping at him to back off.
But in doing so, she exposed her front, and Guan Yi immediately leaned in and kissed her lips.
“Mmph—! Get off!”
Guan Yi held her close, murmuring in a soft, wheedling tone, “Don’t be mad, baby. You’re still in confinement — can’t get angry…”
Ming Ming: “…”
That only made her angrier.
How could someone be this shameless?!
She was utterly exasperated. Why did she always attract perverts?!
He wasn’t a good man. He didn’t love or respect her — just a controlling, perverted man. Sure, he treated her well off the bed and had even saved her a few times, but once his hormones took over, he turned into a total animal… A pervert through and through!
And the tentacles — oh, don’t even start.
At this point, the tentacles weren’t even the worst part — they were just bonus features on a full-blown deviant.
The more she thought about it, the sadder she became. Tears streamed down her face. She was the world’s ultimate little pitiful thing — unloved, unlucky, and forever surrounded by lunatics.
Why did they all have to fall for her?!
Boohoohoo…
She suddenly missed her first world. Sure, Master Huo wasn’t exactly ideal, but at least he was generous with money! She should’ve just buried her head in silk pillows and spent his fortune without worrying about anything!
The second world wasn’t bad either — life was tough, but at least the guy was decent…
Then came the ancient eras, the apocalypse — she hadn’t seen a proper modern world in forever.
“System, you’re useless! You promised me a modern world! The apocalypse and modern civilization are not the same thing! I wanna play on my phone! Boohoohoohoo…”
After being offline for ages, the system came online under pressure, trying to calm her down.
“The next one, I swear — the next world will definitely be modern!”
Seeing her crying so miserably, Guan Yi panicked. He sat up, cradled her in his arms.
“What’s wrong, baby? Don’t cry, please don’t cry — it breaks my heart. Tell me what’s wrong?”
Through her sobs, Ming Ming mumbled,
“I… I miss my ex-husband…”
Guan Yi: “…”
???
!!!
Shit. He was screwed.
He finally realized he’d gone too far — all the goodwill he’d built up was gone in one night.
She was missing her ex-husband!
Hell no — he couldn’t lose to a dead man!
“I was wrong, baby, I was so wrong. I shouldn’t have teased you like that. Don’t be mad, okay? It’s not worth getting upset — you can hit me, kick me, anything you want. I won’t fight back. Whatever makes you feel better, I’ll do it.”
Ming Ming was heartbroken, sobbing uncontrollably.
In truth, she didn’t hate him — she actually liked him. She was just too overwhelmed this time. Despite all the dirty novels she’d read, her real experience was limited — even after all these worlds.
The last guy, Li He, might’ve been intense, but at least everything happened in bed. This one? Apocalypse, zombies, and outdoor action?!
Everything about it was nerve-wracking. And he’d been so rough…
If she and Guan Yi had met back in a normal, modern world — dated sweetly, fallen in love, then naturally progressed — things might’ve been romantic.
But this was the apocalypse — fear was already a constant. She’d barely survived the zombies at the military base, hadn’t even recovered yet, and then he… yeah. Her poor heart couldn’t take it.
To make amends, Guan Yi started talking about their future. From returning to the base to surviving the apocalypse, he laid out a whole list — a hundred things a good husband would do for his wife. He swore up and down that he’d make her life heavenly.
His promises were tempting. Ming Ming sniffled, skeptical but hopeful. “Really?”
“Of course! Every word of it!”
She thought for a moment, then gave a little huff, deciding to forgive him for now — though she definitely made a mental note.
If he didn’t behave later, she’d dump him without hesitation.
They didn’t linger long — once their clothes were dry, they got ready to head back. Ming Ming’s storage space held plenty of supplies, and they needed to regroup with the others soon.
Along the way, Guan Yi caught a fish and roasted it for her, but without seasoning, it tasted awful. Ming Ming would’ve rather eaten the dry ration bars even dogs wouldn’t touch. After a few bites, even Guan Yi spat it out and joined her in gnawing on the rock-hard rations.
By dusk, they were on his motorcycle, heading back the same way. Guan Yi tried a shortcut, misjudged the terrain, and ended up shaking Ming Ming so hard she nearly threw up.
“You… son… of… a… bitch… just… say… you… wanna… kill… me—bleegh—”
“Okay, okay! Smooth road ahead, I promise! No more bumps!”
It was getting dark — too dangerous to drive at night. Guan Yi planned to find a safe place to camp, but by sheer luck, they caught up with the main group.
Everyone was resting in an open plaza.
“What are you guys doing here?” Guan Yi parked and helped a dazed Ming Ming off the bike.
“Don’t ask,” one of them groaned. “We got lost. Dr. An was in a hurry to study the mutants and went ahead. We figured we’d just stay out here for the night — maybe run into you two.”
The group started teasing immediately.
“So, Captain, when’s the wedding with our sister-in-law?”
Guan Yi laughed and shooed them away. “Get lost, all of you. I’m still waiting on my official title.”
They were in the middle of dinner, so Ming Ming got to enjoy some seasoned barbecue and roasted corn — her mouth slick with oil, but her face full of joy.
Guan Yi watched her eat, occasionally wiping her lips.
The others kept teasing. Ming Ming shot back, “He owes me! You guys don’t know — he roasted a fish with no seasoning! It was disgusting!”
But no one cared about the fish.
“Yo, Captain, going on honeymoon and still have time to fish?”
“Captain’s killing it!”
“Man of the hour, huh?”
Ming Ming: “…”
Like captain, like soldiers.
Ugh.
The group took turns standing watch through the night, then set off again the next morning. Ming Ming finally got to sit comfortably in a car. With nothing else to do, she pulled out some explosives from her space and handed them around so the others could help her assemble grenade “mushrooms.”
“We’re not lost this time, right?” someone asked, frowning at the unfamiliar streets.
“No, no,” the driver assured him. “I know this route. The safe zone’s right ahead — you’ll recognize it soon.”
Ming Ming had heard of the “safe zone” before but had never seen one. “What’s it like?” she asked.
“Not great,” someone said grimly. “For regular folks without powers, it’s just a place to survive — barely. Honestly, they’re like livestock penned up to die slowly.”
