“If we’re talking about drawing attention, I’m nowhere near your level,” Fengguang thought, looking back at his character’s setting. Situ You had always acted arrogantly. Even though he knew the school strictly forbade drinking human blood, once he met Zeng Xue, he still broke the rules without hesitation.
Situ You let out a cool, humorless laugh. “Xia Fengguang, don’t think I can’t hear the sarcasm in your words. I’m giving you a friendly reminder—know your place, and don’t try to do anything to attract my attention.”
“Do you think you’re gold or jewels?” Fengguang crossed her arms and looked at him. “That people without money would rush over just to fawn all over you? Situ You, let me make one thing clear to you: the Xia family isn’t short on money. I don’t need to rack my brain trying to get close to you. No one ever said you weren’t annoying—you just went ahead and decided on your own that you’re some kind of hot commodity.”
After saying that, she shot him one last glance, then walked straight past him and out of the dormitory building.
Her presence was unstoppable; her retreating figure was effortlessly confident.
After a long moment, Situ You glanced at the surrounding crowd and snapped irritably, “What are you all standing around for? Don’t you have class to get to?”
The onlookers froze, then quickly scattered to mind their own business.
A clash between Situ You and Xia Fengguang was like gods fighting—ordinary people like them had no business getting involved.
After walking for about ten minutes, Fengguang reached the academic building. It was shared by Division A and Division B, just at staggered times. She was about to enter when she heard someone call her name from behind a tree.
“Fengguang…”
She turned around and saw Zeng Xue standing behind a tree in the shadows. Fengguang quickly scanned the area, then hurried over and pulled Zeng Xue deeper into the darkness. “Why are you here? Don’t you know this isn’t a time you should be out?”
“I couldn’t find you during the day,” Zeng Xue said softly. “So I could only wait for you here at night. Don’t worry—I’ve been hiding. No one noticed me.”
Was that really the issue? If those vampires showed up, it wouldn’t matter where she hid—they’d find her by scent alone.
Fengguang said sternly, “You need to go back right now.”
“Hey, don’t rush me,” Zeng Xue said, still unaware of how dangerous the night was. She took a lunchbox out of her bag. “I brought this for you. I haven’t seen you the past couple of days, and I was worried you weren’t eating enough, so I brought you some food.”
Fengguang: “…”
She felt unexpectedly touched, then let out a deep sigh. Grabbing Zeng Xue’s hand, she led her in another direction. “I really appreciate you bringing me food, but it’s dangerous for you to be out at this hour. I’m taking you back.”
“Dangerous?” Zeng Xue jogged to keep up. “This is a school—what danger could there be?”
At worst, she might get caught by the patrolling student council president or vice president and be punished.
Zeng Xue was careless because she didn’t know the truth. Fengguang was different. She could already sense vampires slowly gathering near the academic building. Before they noticed a lone human wandering around, she had to get Zeng Xue somewhere safe.
Suddenly, a cat’s meow came from above.
“Meow~”
“Oh! A kitten!” Zeng Xue looked up excitedly and pointed at the small black cat perched in the tree, completely missing the stone in front of her. Her foot twisted, and she fell straight to the ground.
