The handsome boy shook his head. “No… I can’t drink your blood anymore…”

“Do you really think the blood of those animals tastes better than mine?”

“That’s not it…”

She spat out a single, forceful word. “Drink.”

His body trembled. Looking aggrieved, he pushed himself up from the ground and said with reddened eyes, like a helpless little rabbit, “I’ll just drink a little… just a little is enough. If it hurts… then… then you can hit me.”

The girl in front of him curved her lips into a faint smile, but it vanished almost at once, as if it had only been an illusion. She said coldly again, “Hurry.”

He shuddered once more, then, like a meek young wife submitting to a bully, opened his mouth, bared his fangs, and bit into her arm.

This was a narrow path leading from the B Division to the A Division, a route rarely used. So when a sound suddenly broke the silence, both of them turned their heads at once—and saw Feng Guang.

It turned out Feng Guang had been watching the scene so intently that she’d unknowingly finished her soy milk, and the straw made a noise inside the empty paper cup.

She blinked, then casually tossed the empty cup into a nearby trash bin. Lifting her hand, she waved. “Hi…”

She recognized them now. The two people were Chu Xiao and Yan Bai.

Yan Bai was still biting Chu Xiao’s arm. He stared blankly at Feng Guang, then suddenly let out a small burp.

Chu Xiao’s brow twitched. She slapped the top of his head and shoved him away, then stood up straight, pulled her sleeve back down, and resumed her usual, goddess-like, untouchable poise. She looked at Feng Guang coldly and said, “This isn’t the time for you to be out.”

“And this doesn’t seem to be…” Feng Guang pointed at the man crouching beside Chu Xiao like a puppy, “…the time for him to be out, does it?”

Chu Xiao replied icily, “I’m about to take him to the principal’s office to receive punishment. Would you like to come along?”

“No! Xiao Xiao, you promised you wouldn’t turn me over to the principal!” Yan Bai clung to Chu Xiao’s leg, crying out pitifully, on the verge of tears.

Chu Xiao shot Yan Bai a look full of frustration and disappointment, then kicked him back to the ground. “Shut up!”

Feng Guang asked very seriously, “So… are you still taking us to the principal’s office now?”

Yan Bai, clearly used to this, scrambled back up and crouched beside Chu Xiao again, clutching her hand and calling her name miserably. “Xiao Xiao…”

“Are you two a couple?” Feng Guang blurted out, pointing at them.

“A couple…” Yan Bai seemed to think of something. His face slowly turned red, his eyes growing unfocused, as if he were about to faint.

Chu Xiao, however, suddenly said in a cold tone, “He and I are not a couple. Please don’t speak carelessly.”

“Xiao Xiao…” Yan Bai shook her hand again, but she hardened her heart and didn’t even look at him. He lowered his head in dejection.

Like a puppy that had been abandoned by its owner.

For once, Feng Guang felt a flicker of sympathy. She looked at Chu Xiao’s cold face and said, “He looks really hurt by what you said… If you like him, then why not—”

“Nonsense.” Chu Xiao cut her off, her expression icy. “Don’t speak based on your assumptions. I’m not like you. I would never fall in love with a vampire.”

Yan Bai’s grip on Chu Xiao’s hand loosened slightly, though he didn’t let go. He kept his head lowered, saying nothing—yet his pain was palpable to anyone who looked at him.
