TSFLIP Chapter 792

“Fengguang.”

He looked down at her, the corners of his eyes softening with a faint curve. The smile that touched his lips wasn’t warm—it carried a quiet, unsettling calm.
“You should be cautious of me,” he said.

“Why…?” She couldn’t understand. Her instincts were usually sharp, and she could sense no malice in him at all. In her eyes, he was the purest, kindest man she had ever met—almost impossibly so.

Shufeng raised his hand and gently brushed her hair. The look in his eyes was impossible to read—soft and distant, like a passing breeze. You couldn’t grasp it, couldn’t hold onto it. It just slipped by, leaving behind a strange emptiness.

“Because you don’t know me yet,” he murmured. Then, with a faint smile, he reached out and tapped her nose. “Didn’t your father tell you not to judge people by appearances?”

She muttered, “Don’t judge by appearances… What, are you saying you might eat me or something?”

“I’ve thought about it.”

Her head snapped up, eyes wide in surprise.

“It seems you really believed me,” he said with a quiet laugh. “I was only joking. Don’t take it seriously.”

Her heart, which had leapt into her throat, slowly settled back down. Pouting, she said, “That wasn’t a funny joke.”

“If Fengguang doesn’t like it, I won’t say it again.”

She didn’t know why, but every word he spoke carried a warmth that seemed to melt straight through her defenses—gentle, indulgent, and dangerously tender. And before she realized it, her heart was pounding, her cheeks flushing pink.

Maybe it was adrenaline clouding her judgment, but before she could stop herself, the question slipped out of her mouth:
“Do you… have someone you like?”

The air instantly froze.

He didn’t answer. The light in his eyes dimmed, and the faint smile he always wore vanished.

Fengguang’s heart began to race. A strange, anxious urgency filled her—she needed to know.

After what felt like forever—or maybe just a heartbeat—his dark, quiet eyes flickered with light again. A faint, distant smile returned to his face.
“Yes,” he said.

That one word hit her like a blade—soft but sharp, leaving behind an ache she couldn’t name.

Her fingers fidgeted at her skirt, twisting the fabric. “The person you like… she must be very beautiful, right?”

“Yes,” Shufeng said quietly. His tone was calm, but there was something in it—something rare, tinged with memory and longing.

Her unease tightened. Her voice came out small and trembling. “Then… does she live here too?”

The forest breeze stilled. Even the rustling leaves seemed to stop.

In that sudden silence, his voice came faint and low—cool as wind, but hoarse with something deeper.
“She’s dead.”

Her breath caught.

A crushing sense of despair settled in her chest. Because no matter how much she tried, she could never win against someone who no longer existed.

The thought hit hard and fast, like a wave that left her breathless. Panic followed close behind. She opened her mouth, but no words came.
“I’ve been out too long,” she blurted instead. “My father will worry. I should go.”

Then she turned and fled.

She could almost feel his gaze on her back—faint, unreadable—but she didn’t dare look. She only quickened her steps, hurrying away from the quiet, lonely manor that everyone else already avoided.

Only when she passed through the gate did she finally exhale. Relief came first—then a dull ache in her chest.

It felt like she’d fallen out of love before she’d even had the chance to fall in. The feeling was strange and heavy, and it hurt more than she wanted to admit.

This man—Shufeng—shouldn’t have had anything to do with her. All she needed to do was wait quietly, wait ten years until the real story began—until the man named Zhou Xing appeared.

But life rarely follows the script.
