His clean, masculine scent flooded her senses, drowning everything else out. Feng Guang’s heartbeat quickened beyond her control. In a daze, she lifted her hand and clutched at the hem of his shirt. Through the firmness of his chest, she could hear the strong, steady rhythm of his heart. After a long silence, she finally couldn’t hold back.
“Han Qi… you… are you…”
“I like you.”
The words came unexpectedly, yet felt completely inevitable. He admitted it without hesitation. Not only that, but his arms tightened around her as his steady voice carried a trace of regret.
“This kind of feeling shouldn’t have appeared in me. After all…”
After all, his time was running out.
The moment she realized he wasn’t Han Chen, she should have kept her distance. But now, she couldn’t bring herself to step away from his embrace. She couldn’t even think of running out of this sterile, cold hospital room. She wasn’t sure if what she felt for him could be called “liking,” but she knew this much—he was a man who made her heart ache.
“Maybe… there’s still a way…” Feng Guang whispered.
Han Qi let out a quiet, relieved laugh, taking her words as nothing more than comfort. “Yes. Maybe there’ll be a way.”
His gaze rested silently on the pot of baby’s breath, a sigh echoing in his heart. He hadn’t told Feng Guang what the flower’s meaning was.
A supporting role, content only to stay by your side.
That was the language of baby’s breath, and it was exactly what he had intended to be.
The subject of his confession—“I like you”—faded away unresolved. Feng Guang sat in the car on her way home, her heart heavier than when she came. She had unraveled the truth about Han Chen and Han Qi’s relationship, but instead of feeling relieved, she almost wished she hadn’t known at all. It only left her restless and torn.
“There’s no way.”
The sudden voice of the system rang in her head. She blinked, stunned, before realizing what it meant. Back at the hospital, she had asked if there was a way for both Han Chen and Han Qi to live. At the time, the system did not answer. But now, the response it gave filled her with disappointment.
“You really mean there’s no way?” she pressed, unwilling to give up.
“Only one of them can live,” the system replied, its tone cold and detached. “You want to have it both ways, but in this world, not everything goes as you wish.”
Feng Guang recalled Han Qi’s words. He had told her the same thing—that life doesn’t always go the way people want. But like everyone, she held onto a sliver of hope. She was no exception. She even came up with a desperate idea.
“What if I use points?”
“There is no such service,” the system shot her down without hesitation.
Staring blankly at the scenery rushing past the car window, Feng Guang felt utterly lost.
She didn’t want Han Qi to die. She didn’t want Han Chen to die either. Neither of them had done anything wrong, and she wished both could survive. Maybe it was selfish, but she didn’t want to lose anyone dear to her.
At the Xia family estate, Xia Chao was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper when he saw his daughter return looking pale and fragile. He set the paper down and asked with concern, “What’s wrong with our fearless Miss Xia today? Did you catch a cold?”
Feng Guang gave him a listless glance and headed straight upstairs.
“You agreed to attend Miss Jin’s banquet?” Xia Chao called after her.
She paused on the staircase, thought for a moment, then nodded. “Yes, I did.”
“Then don’t break your promise,” he reminded her. “Make sure you dress beautifully. Don’t embarrass me.”
