The boy holding the God of Wealth figurine was just about to cross the street toward the flower shop, but unfortunately, Feng Guang had already come out. She kept her head down, looking at the flowerpot in her hands, unaware of anyone around her. She hailed a taxi and left.
Back at the hospital, Feng Guang easily found the room she’d visited just the night before. Standing at the door, she suddenly felt nervous. After taking a deep breath, she knocked.
A pleasant voice came from inside. “Come in.”
She pushed the door open and saw a tall, slender man standing by the window. Sunlight spilled in, outlining his figure with a kind of holiness. In that moment, he smiled slightly, and it was as if the sunlight had gathered into his smile before bursting forth again—brilliant and beautiful.
“Feng Guang, you came.”
“Mm… good morning.” She looked at him, her eyes filtering everything as though through a lens, and in that lens, he was flawless and captivating. His smile was too pure, his eyes too clear—there wasn’t the faintest trace of darkness in him.
And yet, this perfect man was standing in a hospital room, dressed in a patient’s gown.
Not wanting him to feel her pity, she quickly walked over and held out what she was carrying. “This is what I promised to bring you yesterday. I spent a long time picking it out at the flower shop.”
“Thank you.” His pale hands took the flowerpot. The white baby’s breath framed his sickly smile, beautiful like glass—yet just as fragile. “I really like it. I’ll take good care of it.”
He set the pot down on the table by the window and extended his long, slender fingers to lightly brush a tiny white bloom, his gaze fixed on it as if he were seeing something else entirely.
For a fleeting moment, Feng Guang wondered what it would feel like if he touched her face like that. But she quickly flushed red and shook her head hard, driving the thought away. “When will you be able to leave the hospital?” she asked.
“Leave the hospital… that’s a difficult question.” He let out a short, quiet laugh. “Because I don’t know, and neither do the doctors.”
It was hard to imagine how he could speak so casually about his own illness.
Frustrated, Feng Guang ruffled her hair. “Is your condition really that serious? Just a few days ago, when I saw you, you seemed perfectly fine…”
“Was I really fine back then?”
“Yes!” she nodded firmly. “You rejected a guy’s confession and even teased me nonstop. You looked full of energy.”
He pressed his lips together and quietly watched her, calm and focused, before smiling softly. “So my life used to be that colorful.”
“Han Chen?”
“I’m just envying my past self.” Her confused expression was so endearing that he reached out and tapped her forehead with his finger, his smile faint but warm. “Still, being here now, with you keeping me company… that’s already pretty good.”
She shook her head. “No, no, it’s not. You need to get better.”
“I’ll try my best to recover.” He sighed lightly. “I guess I really can’t keep throwing away my medicine anymore.”
“What!?”
Turning his head, he chuckled softly. “I was joking. Of course, I’ve been taking them properly.”
“Well, that joke wasn’t funny at all.” She puffed up her cheeks in protest.
