Feng Guang snapped at Suva, “Watch your attitude when you’re talking to my daughter!”
Couldn’t he see he’d frightened the child?
Suva turned his head with a sigh. This was exactly why he didn’t want kids—their presence not only disrupted life, but also stirred up more conflict between husband and wife.
Xiaoxiao looked at Feng Guang, snorted, and said, “I don’t need you to speak up for me!”
Then she turned and ran off.
“Xiaoxiao!”
Suva caught Feng Guang’s hand and shook his head. “Feng Guang, don’t chase her. Let me go. You saw it yourself—between the two of us, she trusts me more.”
“Suva…”
“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt her.” He gave an innocent smile. “Xiaoxiao is my daughter, too.”
And that was exactly why Feng Guang was even more worried.
She knew all too well that some twisted people loved targeting those closest to them, to savor the look of disbelief on their faces.
“I should still go with you—”
“Feng Guang.” He cut her off again, raising his hand to caress her cheek. His voice carried a sorrowful weight. “Do you really not trust me?”
No—she couldn’t let him know that she had already discovered the truth about her dying multiple times.
Feng Guang forced herself to speak slowly. “Suva, you’ll bring Xiaoxiao back to me safe and sound, right?”
“I promise you, Feng Guang. Xiaoxiao will return to you unharmed.” Suva’s soft voice carried the darkest glint in his eyes, as though her mistrust had wounded him deeply.
Feng Guang suddenly felt awkward. She muttered uneasily, “Then hurry back. I’ll wait for you both here.”
“Alright.” He pressed a kiss to her brow, and in the next instant, his figure vanished.
“Gh-ghost… a ghost!” Two servant women who had wandered close caught sight of the man disappearing into thin air and immediately shrieked in terror.
Feng Guang turned to them, lips curling into a smile. “I am a reaper from the underworld. I just came by to collect a wandering soul—but unfortunately, you two saw me. So be it. I might as well take two more today.”
The two women dropped to their knees, begging, “No… Lord Reaper, spare us!”
“Please, Lord Reaper, have mercy! We won’t tell anyone what we saw!”
Feng Guang folded her arms with a smile. “I can’t trust you. You’re both notorious gossips, always spreading rumors behind people’s backs. When you land in hell, you’ll go straight to the tongue-pulling pit anyway. Whether it’s sooner or later—what difference does it make?”
“Lord Reaper, we swear we’ll never gossip again!”
“We’ll work hard and mind our own business. We won’t wag our tongues anymore!”
“Please, Lord Reaper, spare our lives!”
“We’re begging you, have mercy!”
…
The two women cried and pleaded for their lives, looking utterly miserable.
Feng Guang acted as if their words had touched her and even put on a benevolent expression. “Fine, fine. Since you’ve never killed or set fires, I’ll spare you this once. But if I hear you gossiping again, no matter how hard you cry, I won’t show mercy next time.”
“Yes… thank you, Lord Reaper!” the two women said, bowing repeatedly in gratitude.
Feng Guang waved her hand. “Alright, off you go.”
“Yes, yes!” The women scrambled to their feet and stumbled away in a panic.
