On their way back, Suva suggested taking Fengguang for a stroll, so he sent Skylark on ahead.
He still hadn’t let go of her hand when he asked softly, “Fengguang, did you come to the academy this time just to see me?”
“Yes…” Fengguang’s eyes flickered, but she didn’t dare admit that she had actually come looking for information about Liuli.
A faint light seemed to brighten the depths of his dark eyes. “That makes me very happy.”
“It’s only right that I come see you…” Seeing how pleased he looked, Fengguang found herself unable to say the words she had wanted to—that she was really here because of Liuli.
“In the past, you used to come see me at the academy every day. You’d always say my temperament was too mild, and you worried that I might be bullied.” At this, his smile was clean and gentle. “I must have made you worry too often—that’s where I failed. For you to see what happened today… I’m sorry.”
Fengguang hurried to respond, “That wasn’t your fault. It was all the county princess’s wishful thinking.”
“The county princess… she has never gotten along with you. It doesn’t surprise me that she’d deliberately do such things. I just worry you might misunderstand me because of it.”
“No… don’t worry, I definitely believe you.” Even as she said it, Fengguang herself didn’t believe her own words.
Suva chuckled and led her up the Ascending Heaven Tower. From there, the entire celestial realm spread out beneath their eyes. Night had already fallen, and the palaces were glowing with countless lanterns, twinkling like stars.
“Fengguang, you always loved coming here. The view is the best—it feels like you could reach out and touch the sea of clouds.”
Fengguang looked at the breathtaking night scene and nodded. “It really is beautiful here.”
“If you like it, I’ll bring you here often.”
“Alright…”
He reached out, wanting to touch her face, but she instinctively turned her head away. His hand froze for a moment before lowering slowly. Still, his smile didn’t falter. “Fengguang, in a few days, it will be the Heavenly Empress’s birthday. Do you want to attend?”
“The Heavenly Empress? You mean… my mother?”
“That’s right.”
“Then of course I have to go.” If her mother was celebrating her birthday, not showing up would be unfilial.
“Then in a few days, I’ll take you to the Heavenly Palace,” Suva said.
She nodded obediently. “Okay.”
Just then, Fengguang sensed something unusual. Before she could ask, Suva’s expression turned cold. He leaned down and said quietly, “Wait here for me. I’ll be right back.”
“Is something wrong?” she asked, instinctively clutching his hand.
“Don’t worry.” Her concern softened his expression. He rubbed her head gently, bent down, and leaned close to her face, whispering, “I’ll be back soon. Wait here for me.”
Her head was spinning from his closeness, leaving her too dazed to think. She could only nod blankly. “Okay…”
As soon as he finished speaking, his figure vanished.
Once his powerful presence faded, her racing heartbeat slowly calmed down. Though she was curious about the strange aura she had felt and puzzled about why Suva had suddenly left, Fengguang remembered his words and obediently waited on the tower for his return.
But an uninvited guest appeared instead.
A man dressed in black combat gear suddenly materialized before her. He flashed a wide grin at her and said, “Good evening, Auntie.”
