As time went on, humanity’s primal instincts gradually reawakened to adapt to the ever-changing realities of interstellar life. People began to evolve and were divided into three classifications based on their abilities. The strongest were ALPHAs—all of whom, without exception, were male. They were in charge of warfare and leadership. The most common but average were BETAs, usually in subservient roles. And finally, there were OMEGAs, biologically weaker individuals responsible for reproduction. OMEGAs could be either male or female—it wasn’t exclusive to women.
Fengguang had learned all this from a shy deputy general aboard Yan Yu’s ship.
Just great—an ABO setting…
Fengguang bit her lip and wanted to slam her head into a wall. ABO, at its core, was like a glorified version of a primitive society, where people were sorted by capability and given fixed roles. For example, most women were naturally classified as OMEGAs. If they encountered an ALPHA who released pheromones, they wouldn’t be able to resist and would go into heat.
She hated this setup. She had a gut feeling that, as a powerless woman without protection, she was doomed. Like now—if Yan Yu hadn’t issued strict orders, there would probably be plenty of men trying to drag her into bed.
At this point, she looked at Nan Xiaoxiao—the female lead dressed like a boy—then at the bracelet on her wrist that suppressed female pheromones. Fengguang couldn’t help but admire her foresight. Even though Nan Xiaoxiao had only picked it up on a whim because she thought it looked cool when they first landed in this world…
Main characters did get all the luck—even random stuff they picked up turned out to be treasures!
And so, as things stood, both she and Nan Xiaoxiao were aboard Yan Yu’s ship. Everyone assumed Nan Xiaoxiao was just a regular BETA. Only Fengguang had been identified as a female OMEGA.
“Fengguang, are you there?”
She heard Nan Xiaoxiao knocking on the door, shook off her gloom, and went to open it.
Nan Xiaoxiao held out a box of nutrient pills. “I figured you were running low, so I brought another box. Everything’s super convenient in this future world—except meals. Eating here feels like taking medicine every time.”
In this fast-paced society, everything was streamlined to the max. Even eating had been reduced to simply swallowing a single pill.
Fengguang took the box, her mood still heavy. “Thanks…”
“What’s wrong?” Nan Xiaoxiao asked. She and Fengguang had been college classmates and roommates. They had always been close, despite being complete opposites—Nan Xiaoxiao was a loud, carefree tomboy, while Fengguang had been a stunning beauty admired by boys since high school. No one could figure out how they’d become friends—not even Nan Xiaoxiao herself.
Fengguang walked to the window and looked out at the vast, starry galaxy. She let out a sigh. “I don’t know. I just feel… this vague, lingering sadness.”
She’d been hoping to find Ye Mo. But right now, stuck on this ship, she didn’t even know where it was headed, much less how to get to the prison planet.
Even if she could find a route, she feared she’d be attacked by some ALPHAs trying to force a bond on her before she even got close.
“What are you so worried about?” Nan Xiaoxiao flopped down on the bed without a care. “I heard Yan Yu told the Emperor that you’re his fiancée. I mean, sure, Yan Yu’s a little cold, but he’s good-looking and a general—talk about impressive!”
“Then you marry him,” Fengguang said coolly, casting her a sidelong glance. Did Nan Xiaoxiao not realize that Yan Yu had only used Fengguang as an excuse to reject the Emperor’s attempt to assign him an OMEGA?
He just didn’t want a political match, so he used her as a shield.
