When Ji Mian left for college, Fengguang and Ji You moved up to sixth grade. On the first day of school, Fengguang discovered a pink envelope in her desk. Curious, she pulled it out.
Ji You immediately shouted from beside her, “Big Sis, is that a love letter?!”
“Huh?” Fengguang froze at the words “love letter” and instinctively glanced around. She spotted a boy in the middle row quickly lowering his head in embarrassment. She pressed her lips together, thinking for a moment, then quietly slipped the letter back into her drawer.
There were too many people around. Walking over to return it now would only hurt his pride. So after school, Fengguang approached the boy alone and gave the letter back. As for the hurt look on his face, she didn’t bother watching long enough to care.
Ji You, however, had no idea any of that happened. She simply assumed Fengguang had accepted the love letter, which could only mean one thing: Fengguang liked that boy.
That night, when Ji Mian made his usual call to check in, Ji You excitedly said, “Big Brother! I think Big Sis is about to start dating!”
On the other end of the line, Ji Mian paused for a moment. “Xiao You… what did you say?”
“Big Sis got a love letter today! From our class monitor! He’s the top student in our grade, and he’s really good-looking too! I think they’d be a great match!”
“Xiao You, you should remind your sister that you’re both still students. You shouldn’t be dating yet.”
“Yes, yes…” Ji You brushed it off. “But Big Brother, you better not tell anyone about this! If our scary homeroom teacher finds out, it’ll be a disaster!”
Ji Mian agreed quickly. “Okay.”
The next day, Fengguang was called into the teacher’s office for a “chat.” Her homeroom teacher, aware of her background, didn’t scold her too harshly, but subtly got the point across.
The teacher listed off example after example: “Early romance affects your studies… students start slacking, skipping class… parents are at their wits’ end…” By the time the lecture ended, Fengguang finally understood why she’d been called in.
Back in class, she turned to Ji You and muttered, “Snitch,” then ignored her for the rest of the day.
The next time Ji You got a call from Ji Mian, she was already in tears. “Big Brother, the teacher called Big Sis to the office today… but I didn’t tell anyone about the love letter, I swear! Now she’s super mad at me and won’t talk to me…”
Ji Mian gently comforted her, then chuckled lowly. “Don’t be sad. Xiao You, do you remember what your sister likes to eat?”
“Something sweet!”
Exactly. Fengguang had always loved sweets.
“I remember—you learned how to make donuts with the housekeeper auntie.”
“Yeah! I still know how!”
“Well then, if you don’t want Big Sis to stay mad, why don’t you make her a batch of donuts and give them to her? How about that?”
Ji You sniffled. “Will that make her forgive me?”
“It will. Don’t you trust what your Big Brother says?”
“I do!” Ji You jumped up from bed, full of energy again. “I’m going to make donuts right now!”
Just as Ji Mian predicted, things went exactly according to plan. Fengguang accepted the donuts with a cold face after glancing around to make sure no one was watching. But the very next morning, on their way to school, she was the one who started talking to Ji You first.
There was no denying it—Ji Mian had her personality figured out to a T.
