In the dead of night, all was silent.
Fengguang sat on her bed, clutching her empty stomach, full of regret. Why hadn’t she eaten something before pulling that stunt to disgust everyone? She’d been running around for ages, hadn’t had a bite of dinner, and now she was too hungry to sleep.
She decided to go to the kitchen.
Holding a lantern, she opened the door. As she stepped out, she noticed a small medicine bottle on the ground. She bent down to pick it up and looked around but couldn’t figure out who had left it there. After a moment’s thought, she slipped it into her sleeve pocket and continued toward the kitchen.
But the kitchen didn’t even have a single steamed bun!
She wandered out with a sigh, gazing at the moonlight overhead.
At that moment, a voice from the rooftop called out, “The moon is so beautiful tonight. Why not join me in enjoying it, miss?”
That alluring voice… Fengguang didn’t want to look up. She lowered her head, lantern in hand, and tried to slip away, but the man jumped down from the roof and blocked her path. Her face fell, close to tears.
“Little girl, didn’t I say I’d come back?” Nangong Li’s wicked smile curved upward.
Fengguang forced herself to lift her head and muster a stiff smile. “Good evening, Master Cult Leader.”
“Good evening, Miss Xia.” Nangong Li greeted her with a mock bow, then used his finger to tilt her chin, clicking his tongue twice. “Well, well… and to think the lady of Zhejian Pavilion, known as the First Beauty, has turned her face into such a mess.”
Not like it was her fault—his beloved was the one responsible!
Since it was late, Fengguang hadn’t worn her veil, and she couldn’t let her disdain show as she wanted to. Her expression grew complicated, and she didn’t dare brush away his hand. Her smile was pained. “Master Cult Leader, I’m hideous, so I’ll just be on my way so as not to offend your sight.”
“Did I say you could leave?” he chuckled, his hand shifting from her chin to grip her throat. “Last time, you used Yueyue to trick me. You must know about her connection to me, but you learned that I can’t let you live.”
Fengguang grasped his hand as he tightened his grip on her throat. His strength was overwhelming, and she couldn’t break free. Her breathing grew labored, and she struggled to say, “Let… me go…”
“Oh, Miss Xia, aren’t you good with words? Try talking me into sparing you,” Nangong Li taunted as if he were toying with an amusing prey.
“You…”
“Hm?” He loosened his hold a bit, curious to hear her response.
Fengguang rolled her eyes. “You’re… just a damn psycho!”
Nangong Li clicked his tongue.
Suddenly disgusted, he let go of her throat. Fengguang clutched her neck, coughing, but quickly bolted, only for him to grab her by the collar.
“Rather than kill you right away, I’ve thought of a way to make your death more meaningful.”
With that, he took hold of her and flew up.
A moment later, they landed at a mountain stream behind the Tang Clan. The instant they touched down, he released her hand as he noticed her face twist.
Without sparing a thought for escape, Fengguang clung to a tree and threw up.
Nangong Li took a step back in distaste. “Xia Fengguang, don’t tell me you’re pregnant?”
“Preg… with… your…” She couldn’t finish before she retched again.
She was just motion-sick!
Some people never get dizzy when using their lightfoot technique, but get sick when someone else is carrying them. It’s like how some people don’t get carsick when they’re driving, but feel sick as passengers. Unfortunately, Fengguang was that type.
