Qi Wei was especially gentle that night.
In truth, aside from the one time she had tried to escape, he had always been gentle with her. But tonight, he seemed even more tender than usual.
For the first time, she suddenly didn’t want to think about anything.
Not about the present, nor the future.
At least in this moment, her mind was completely blank.
For the first time, she wanted to simply enjoy herself.
And for the first time, she wished tomorrow would come a little more slowly.
But time never changes for the sake of human wishes.
Qi Wei’s body clock always woke him at seven in the morning. At that hour, he would usually get up to prepare breakfast for her.
But today, just as he was about to rise, the person in his arms wrapped herself around him.
“Qi Wei, stay in bed with me a little longer.”
She rubbed lightly against his chest, her tiny voice soft like a kitten’s murmur.
This was the first time she had cuddled up to him so affectionately.
Qi Wei couldn’t refuse her.
One hand gently massaged her waist while the other softly stroked her bare back.
“What’s gotten into Fengguang today?”
“I don’t know… I just feel especially sleepy today.”
“If you want to sleep, then stay in bed a little longer. Are you hungry?”
She shook her head.
“No. I don’t want to eat anything.”
That really didn’t sound like her.
Normally, after spending so much energy at night, she would always complain about being hungry. No matter how dissatisfied she felt inside, she never mistreated her stomach.
Suddenly, Fengguang’s eyes widened.
She realized that over the past several days, she had barely had an appetite, yet her body didn’t feel unwell at all. Her notoriously irregular period also still hadn’t come…
But she quickly rejected the alarming thought that surfaced in her mind.
Qi Wei didn’t like children, and she had only taken birth control pills once. After all, Qi Wei had said that from then on, he would be the one responsible for taking the medicine.
Right.
Someone like Qi Wei—if he truly didn’t want children, then he would definitely have a way to make sure she never became pregnant.
Fengguang lifted her head.
“Qi Wei, let me cook with you today.”
“Alright.”
He let out a delighted laugh.
Though calling it “cooking together” was a stretch. In reality, she simply watched him cook while being unable to help much at all.
He moved through everything with effortless control.
Morning sunlight streamed across him, casting a soft glow over his figure.
She watched him quietly for a long time.
For a moment, she almost felt as though they were simply an ordinary married couple, and not a prisoner and captor living inside a psychiatric hospital.
A person’s thoughts can change in an instant.
And in that instant, she made her decision.
By the time Qi Wei set the food on the table, Fengguang had already placed two glasses of milk there.
Smiling, he gently rubbed her head before pulling her into his arms and settling her onto his lap.
“Fengguang seems especially energetic today.”
“Maybe because I’m in a good mood.”
Beneath her relaxed smile hid a trace of bitterness.
She watched him drink the milk.
Not long afterward, she watched as drowsiness overtook him.
“If you’re sleepy, then go lie down,” she said softly.
“Okay…”
Qi Wei stood up, groggy and unfocused, allowing her to help him back onto the bed.
Sitting beside him, Fengguang absentmindedly rested a hand against his face.
Soon, his hand covered hers.
Half-asleep, he smiled faintly.
“Fengguang… will you always stay with me?”
“…I will.”
After hearing her quiet answer, he finally relaxed and closed his eyes, truly falling asleep.
“Qi Wei…”
She lowered her head close to his face, her voice so soft it was almost a whisper.
“I won’t give up my freedom… but I won’t let anyone hurt you either.”
She was going to find a place to hide him.
