“Is it not? Then I suppose I’m wrong.” Qi Wei smiled calmly and elegantly. “Miss Xia, you can get a good rest here tonight. If you need anything, just come find me—I’ll be in the room next door.”

“Okay…”

Before leaving, he added kindly, “Miss Xia, remember to lock your doors and windows before you go to sleep.”

Fengguang froze for a moment, then nodded.

After Qi Wei left, she shut the door, then opened the window. She could see the small grove they had walked through earlier, and beyond it, a white building. She guessed that must be where the nurses lived. It had only been one day, but she had already been through quite a lot. Yawning, she closed the window and lay down on the bed. Since all her luggage had been taken by the runaway boat captain, she couldn’t even shower and had no choice but to fall asleep just like that.

When she woke up the next morning, it was already past nine. She stepped out of the room—Qi Wei was nowhere to be seen, probably already at work. On the table sat some steamed buns and soy milk. It took her a moment to realize he had left them for her.

She was just thinking how considerate that man was when she heard a knock at the door.

It couldn’t be Qi Wei—he had a key. Fengguang was fairly alert, so she called out, “Who is it?”

“Miss Xia, it’s me, Jin Guoguo.” A bright, energetic voice came from the other side, immediately bringing to mind Jin Guoguo’s lively, cheerful face.

Fengguang hesitated. “Are you looking for Dr. Qi? He’s not here.”

“No, I’m here to see you.”

“What do you want with me?”

“I noticed you didn’t go to the cafeteria. I was worried you might be hungry, so I brought you breakfast.”

She was… a little too enthusiastic.

Fengguang opened the door just a crack and, sure enough, saw Jin Guoguo holding a bag of food. Her brow twitched. “Nurse Jin… we only met yesterday.”

“That’s okay—we’ll get familiar if we chat more.” Jin Guoguo pushed the door open and walked right in, stuffing all the food she was carrying into Fengguang’s arms. “Miss Xia, let’s be friends.”

Holding the large bag, Fengguang seriously suspected Jin Guoguo had bought one of everything from the cafeteria. She set the food down on the table and, faced with such enthusiasm, nodded stiffly.

“That’s great! Then we’re friends now!” Jin Guoguo grabbed Fengguang’s hand and pulled her to sit on the couch. She took out her phone and opened her photo album. “I love taking pictures—look, these are all the ones I think turned out the best… I’ve also saved a lot of photos online that I think are really pretty.”

Fengguang was forced to look through more than a dozen pictures before suddenly realizing something. “Wait—doesn’t this island not have internet or signal?”
