“Hello.” Fengguang nodded, though she couldn’t help noticing the girl’s makeup was a little too thick—so pale it was almost unsettling.

Qi Wei asked, “What are you doing here?”

“I just finished taking care of a patient and was hurrying back to the dorm to rest. I’m sorry for startling you.”

“It’s nothing, really—no need to apologize,” Fengguang said quickly.

“You must be one of the guests who arrived today, Miss Xia.” Jin Guoguo already knew there were three women: one locked in a ward, one was Yang Hui—whom she had already met—so this one had to be Xia Fengguang. She smiled sweetly. “Miss Xia, you’re so pretty. I wish I were as pretty as you.”

Fengguang forced a stiff smile. “You’re very pretty too…”

Honestly, who says something like that the first time they meet someone? It felt so strange.

“No, I’m nowhere near as pretty as you…” Jin Guoguo lowered her head, looking dejected, but quickly perked up again. “Miss Xia, can I come find you sometime in the future?”

“Uh… I…”

“It’s getting late,” Qi Wei cut in with a smile, gently interrupting her. “The nurses’ dorm and the doctors’ dorm are in different directions. Nurse Jin, we’ll be on our way.”

“Okay… oh?” Jin Guoguo hesitated, then asked curiously, “Doctor Qi, are you taking Miss Xia to—”

“That’s not something you need to worry about,” Qi Wei said with a polite nod. “We’ll be going now.”

Fengguang glanced at Jin Guoguo, who still looked a little dazed, then hurried to catch up with Qi Wei. Soon they exited the grove and arrived at a dorm building with lights on. Jin Guoguo was no longer in sight.

The dorm building looked rather old and didn’t have an elevator. Fortunately, Qi Wei lived on the fourth floor—not too high, though it was still exhausting enough for someone like Fengguang. After he unlocked the door, she walked in and immediately collapsed onto the sofa, letting out a satisfied sigh. Only then did she take a moment to look around.

The room was simply furnished—clean and neat. Aside from the ceiling light and a fan, there were no other appliances.

This really was… primitive living.

Qi Wei poured her a glass of cold water. “I hope Nurse Jin didn’t frighten you.”

“I’m fine…” She took a sip and said thoughtfully, “She just seemed a little too enthusiastic.”

“That’s just how she is. Quite a few people have mentioned that she can be overly friendly. Don’t take it to heart.”

“I’m not. I don’t even know her—at most I’ll just nod and say hello if I run into her again.”

He smiled. “Fair enough. Let me show you your room.”

“Okay.” She set the glass down and followed him into a bedroom.

Qi Wei turned on the light. There was a bed, a wardrobe, and a window. “The bedding is all new, so you can rest easy.”

“Doctor Qi…” Fengguang stroked her chin thoughtfully. “I’ve noticed you seem to like simple things. But when you treated the small cut on my hand earlier, you were incredibly meticulous… you’re kind of a contradictory person.”

“That’s different.” A strange hint of pleasure flickered in his eyes. “Miss Xia’s hands are perfect. It would be a terrible waste to let something that perfect be scarred.”
