Yang Zhi and Li Bi were childhood sweethearts, growing up together and attending school together. From elementary school, Li Bi was convinced that Yang Zhi was meant for him. Although Yang Zhi often teased him, insisting that he was not her boyfriend, once they reached university, Li Bi enrolled in the police academy, while she chose to study medicine. It was obvious to anyone paying attention to why she made that choice, but Yang Zhi was too proud to admit it.
When Li Bi first became a police officer, he received a case about a missing woman. As he dug deeper into the investigation, his superiors, including his mentor, urged him to stop looking into it, claiming that the situation was beyond his control. He couldn’t understand why, if they were police officers, they couldn’t catch criminals. Why should anyone be untouchable?
With passion and determination, Li Bi refused to give up. While tailing Meng Fei, he received a phone call from Yang Zhi.
“Hey, Li Bi, I think we’re getting older. How about we go to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow to get our marriage certificate?”
Li Bi was so excited he nearly dropped his phone, quickly responding, “Sure!”
That was Yang Zhi for you; she never played by the rules. Just the day before, she had said she wouldn’t marry him, yet today she called to suggest they get married. How could something as significant as marriage be decided over the phone?
Of course, it could!
That night, buoyed by Yang Zhi’s words, Li Bi had renewed energy in his pursuit of Meng Fei. However, the next day, he never saw Yang Zhi again.
Yang Zhi was dead, found in a small alley corner, her body covered in mud and her clothes in tatters. She was still wearing the engagement ring he had given her, even though she once insisted she would never wear such an ugly ring. Yet she had quietly put it on; it fit her so well and was so conspicuous. That day it had rained, and Li Bi held her cold body, trembling and sobbing uncontrollably.
There were no eyewitnesses, no murder weapon, no evidence—this became a cold case.
Feng Guang watched the man before her, who was struggling to suppress his emotions, and pushed the documents toward him. “Here, I have evidence of all his crimes. Once it’s made public, no matter how powerful his backing is, he won’t be able to escape. He might only end up in prison. You know how slow some processes can be.”
Li Bi hesitated to open the file, his eyes as still as a dead lake. “Where did you get this?”
“You don’t need to know. Just confirm that what I’ve given you is true. As far as I know, Meng Fei is currently vacationing on his island, where there’s a lot of security. I suspect he will refuse arrest, and you might even end up in a struggle.”
In the struggle, Meng Fei might panic and run, only to be hit by a stray bullet, which wasn’t an impossible scenario.
Li Bi picked up the file and smiled faintly. “You give me such a big gift; what do you want in return?”
“I don’t want anything in return.” Feng Guang smiled brightly, a beautiful sight that could put anyone at ease. Unfortunately, she was facing Li Bi. “Officer Li, I believe you are a truly good police officer. Your mission is to apprehend those wicked people, like Meng Fei, not to arrest those poor souls who resort to weapons because of life’s circumstances.”
“Is An Tong one of those poor souls?”
“Once he was.” Feng Guang smiled. “But now he has me, so he isn’t anymore.”
“Little girl, you should understand that if everyone acts against the rules out of desperation, the world will become chaotic.”
Feng Guang replied, “So why doesn’t Officer Li set his sights on bigger targets?”
“You make a good point.” Li Bi’s expression turned cold as he curled his lips into a smirk. He stood up to leave and said one last thing before walking out: “Thank you.”
Feng Guang raised her coffee, pretending she hadn’t heard his final words. Externally, she appeared incredibly elegant, but inside, her heart was bleeding profusely!
Those seven points of luck she had, oh, how they bled!
