“It’d be great if every mission could take place before the male second lead meets the female lead,” Fengguang sighed as she stood in the white space. “I feel like that would make things a lot easier for me.”
…Although, even when she arrived at the normal point in the storyline, the missions hadn’t exactly been that difficult.
The system didn’t respond—clearly too lazy to bother.
Fengguang said excitedly, “System, you should fix bugs more often!”
“Please select a script.”
Looking at the books that appeared around her, she muttered, “You really have no sense of humor.”
She casually picked one up. The title read This Damn Love. She froze for a moment—was this story not a cliché romance, but instead something that criticized love?
But as the plot flooded into her mind, she was left completely speechless.
The story truly lived up to its title—loving someone so much you want to kill them.
The female lead, Yao Xiaoxiao, was the wealthy daughter of the Yao family. Her mother died when she was young, and she grew up with her father. However, after a plane crash took his life, her uncle, in order to seize the family fortune, claimed she was mentally ill and had her sent to a psychiatric hospital.
Yao Xiaoxiao was perfectly sane. Being thrown into a mental institution was, of course, unbearable.
But this was no ordinary hospital.
Inside was the male lead, Nangong Zhe, who suffered from a severe mental disorder—the kind where the more he liked something, the more he wanted to consume it. Elegant, noble, and gentlemanly, he was everything a girl could want in a perfect boyfriend.
Yet this seemingly perfect man had committed multiple murders.
His victims varied—men and women, rich and poor, all with different personalities. But they had one thing in common: each possessed a body part Nangong Zhe liked.
For example, one woman’s eyes, another man’s ears…
He took pleasure in eating them.
It was clear—Nangong Zhe was extremely dangerous. So he was confined to a psychiatric hospital on an isolated island, commonly known as “Diamond Island.” The patients there all came from powerful and wealthy families, and the institution functioned more like a prison—no one could escape. It was said to be even more unbreakable than a diamond.
And that was where Yao Xiaoxiao was sent—a place where no one could hear your cries for help.
Of course, while Nangong Zhe had a habit of eating people, that tendency became an exception when it came to the female lead. After all, he was the male lead—no matter how insane he was, he couldn’t actually harm her. Otherwise, readers would hate him, and a hated male lead would be fatal to the story.
So this mentally unstable man ended up flying kites with Yao Xiaoxiao, taking walks with her by the sea, and somehow developing a romantic relationship with her. In the end, he even helped her escape the island, took revenge on the relatives who had wronged her, and then brought her abroad, where they lived happily together.
As for the second male lead, since the psychiatric hospital only had doctors and patients, and the “patient” role was already taken by the male lead, the second male lead naturally became a doctor.
Qi Wei, a top graduate from a medical school and an elite doctor on “Diamond Island,” was the pitiful backup who desperately tried to keep Yao Xiaoxiao away from Nangong Zhe.
Fengguang let out a sigh of relief. At least Qi Wei was normal—she didn’t have to end up in a romance with a psychopath like Yao Xiaoxiao did.
