Bei Yutang stepped out of her room and heard the sounds of bustling activity coming from the kitchen.

When Bei’s mother saw her come out, she turned to her and said, “Go wash up quickly. Breakfast will be ready soon.”

“Okay.”

Breakfast was the same as usual: simple bread, milk, and fried eggs. Bei Yutang finished her milk.

“I’m full.”

Walking into the living room, she slung her schoolbag over her shoulder and called out toward the dining room, “Mom, I’m going to school.”
