Jiang Nanshu found the umbrella Zhou Yanxu had used yesterday.
Her clothes weren’t dry after washing, so she casually found a bag and stuffed them all in.
She was already sick, and getting caught in the rain made her even sicker, which made it not easy for her to walk down the mountain.
Jiang Nanshu remembered Zhou Yanxu’s intuition; otherwise, why would he have appeared so accurately before her to stop her from committing a crime?
But it doesn’t matter anymore.
She listens to him.
From now on, she’ll consider him her benefactor and won’t harbor any other feelings.
She had just reached the temple entrance when a figure holding an umbrella ascended the stairs of Yulin Temple.
He wore a black suit. The fabric, which should have been smooth, was wrinkled. His meticulously groomed black hair hung down over his brow.
Jiang Nanshu paused and subconsciously took a small step back.
Why was Lu Qingyan here?
But she remained standing at the door. Ignoring his calls and messages made her feel somewhat guilty.
Her slender white fingers clutched her pocket tightly as she met his deep, dark eyes. Seeing that he had also stopped, Jiang Nanshu simply stood still, looking down at her toes.
In just three seconds, the cool scent of cedar filled her nostrils.
A warm, large hand covered her forehead, and Lu Qingyan’s cool voice rang out: “You feel a little hot. Do you have a fever?”
Jiang Nanshu pursed her lips and remained silent.
Seeing her serious little face, Lu Qingyan couldn’t help but laugh out loud: “I flew from Beijing to Hong Kong without closing my eyes, searching for you all night. When I heard about the landslide nearby, I stayed with the search and rescue team for three hours. I was so scared that my hands were shaking, afraid that one of them was you. Fortunately, it wasn’t you. Later, I went around asking around, to your film crew, asking the actors, asking Director Wen, finding Jiang Leyi, and finally asking Zhou Zhenghui. After going through so many twists and turns, I finally found out that you were in this temple.”
He reached out and stroked her fair, rosy cheek.
“I’m afraid you’ll be cold or hungry, afraid you’ll get sick from the rain, afraid you’ll encounter danger, and you’re still angry with me? Nan Nan, what am I supposed to do with you?”
Jiang Nanshu thought that he was going to scold her.
He must have been angry all night because she didn’t answer his phone or reply to his messages like the last time.
This was the second time, and it was even worse than the last time.
Jiang Nanshu knew that he’d sent a ton of messages, but she was so upset that she didn’t want to reply or even read them.
But she hadn’t expected Lu Qingyan to keep looking for her until now.
“Am I important to you?” Jiang Nanshu looked directly at him, her voice very soft.
Lu Qingyan didn’t actually know either, but he missed Jiang Nanshu when he couldn’t see her, and when he couldn’t contact her, he would leave a contract worth hundreds of millions to come to Hong Kong to make sure that she was safe. When he finally saw her, he was both angry and worried.
Angry that she could have borrowed a charger to charge her phone and replied to his messages, but also worried that she might have run into trouble or was trapped somewhere.
When she appeared unharmed, he wanted to give her the cold shoulder. But seeing her distraught and unsteady steps, his anger turned to heartache, making him unable to utter a single harsh word.
The relationship between him and Jiang Nanshu began to become unfair.
Who was the prey, and who was the hunter?
The question no longer mattered.
The important thing is that he likes her and can accept everything about her, including her occasional coldness and the sense of security she never gives.
Nothing is more important than her being alive.
Lu Qingyan pulled her into his arms, “It’s important.”
“I’ll take you to the hospital down the mountain. Your face is red from the fever.”
He let go of her and took her hand, tilting the umbrella toward her.
“Okay.” She obediently followed Lu Qingyan’s steps.
After walking a short distance, Lu Qingyan glanced at the half-open temple gate.
His dark eyes subconsciously narrowed.
Jiang Nanshu subconsciously turned around, but the entrance was empty. There was nothing there.
